Default riomet?

hi ladies...
i had lap band surgery in june of 2007 and have lost about 80 pounds.. i would like to lose quite a bit more, but i have allowed life get in the way of my weight loss goals. DH and i are now TTC, and i'm trying to lose more weight in the process.

when i first had the surgery, i was told that it would be more difficult to absorb pills. my ob/gyn has prescribed metformin for my PCOS, and met has been working really well until recently. it's not absorbing properly now and i end up seeing them in the toilet after a BM (sorry if TMI).

i recently heard about riomet... does anyone take this? any idea if it's easy to find? i was reading a message board and someone mentioned it was hard to get at the drugstore. i'm definitely going to discuss with my doctor and go from there.

thanks in advance!

I take Riomet. I also had lapband surgery (in 2004) and have a hard time swallowing large pills. Finding met pills in a BM is actually normal, believe it or not. My mom is a pharmaceutical sales rep and she asked one of her customers about it. The pills are called a wax matrix. The medicine is in the wax matrix kinda like water in a sponge. What is passed in a BM is the "sponge" and the "water" is the met that is absorbed into your system. Back to Riomet, I take it, but I absolutely despise it! It tastes horrible, the side effects are 10 times worse that taking the pills, at least for me. Also, it is expensive! My copay with my insurance was $50 because it is a tier 3 drug. My pharmacy had to order it, but they had it the next day, so they didn't have any trouble getting it. I recently lost my insurance and my mom checked with one of her customers and for us to buy it from him at his cost it was $175 for one bottle (a months supply) so needless to say, when I finish the bottle I have, I will have to stop taking it.

Know that this was posted awhile back but decided to post the answer anyway for future readers. You can get Riomet liquid at any compound pharmacy such as Walgreens. Just call your local Walgreens and ask the pharmacist for their store that does compounding. It is expensive since it is a level 3 tier drug. I bought a one month supply last night at Walgreen's and with my co-pay it was 43.64. Not cheap and is foul tasting. The pharmacist said you can mix wiht a little sugar-free kool-aide to get it down.
