Question Risks of breast cancer???

This post mentions abortion!

The topic of this post is not meant to cause controversy.
Nor is it to post your opinion of abortion.
So please keep this post on topic.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the increased risk of breast cancer after having an abortion???
On the way home today my dh & I passed a billboard mentioning the increased risk. When we got home I checked out the website
It says that those having spontaneous abortions(miscarriages) don't have the same risk because of hormone levels but I wonder if those that do have late first/early second trimester miscarriages that can have high hormone levels...could possibly have the same risk.
I lost our twins last year at almost 13 weeks and had really high HCG levels so am wondering if this could be just another thing I need to worry about or if this is just one of the local orginization's ways of discouraging abortions in the community.
Has anyone heard of this risk?

I've heard about the increase risk of breast cancer following pregnancy loss. The risk increases not only for women who have intentionally terminated pregnancy but also for women who've suffered miscarriage as well; I've also read that this information is based on shoddy studies and very limited information and, frankly, that website you referenced looks like an antiabortion scare tactic.

You can find out information on miscarriage, abortion and breast cancer from the National Cancer Institute's worksheet on the matter by clicking here.

Anti-abortion agenda. There may be some impact on the body with regard to cancer risks resulting from the hormonal changes from a loss, but your body doesn't know if the loss was intentional or unintentional. The research is shoddy and the intent is to scare.

eta another link on the lack of evidence

I agree with what Runnerduck says.

It is just a scare tactic.

Sorry, sweetie. I don't buy it, either.

There's no point in worrying about it, beyond ensuring that you do regular checks and get mammograms when you hit the right age. PCOS can lead to an increased risk, too, because our "bad" estrogen is often elevated while the hormones that counteract it are lowered. Take care of yourself, do your checks, and you'll be way ahead of the game.

And, 90-95% of breast cancer victims beat it these days. My Mom's one of them.
