Default Rogaine 5%?

I just started using this the other day along with Nioxin products (I used them when my hair loss first started and it didn't help keep it but I loved the way it made my head feel SO clean). I don't really expect it to work, especially since I've had hair loss for about 13 years now. This month, after 9 years, I stopped using hair replacement bonds and decided to go for wigs. The thing about the replacement is that they shave your head for attachment so I figured hey, while I'm buzzed, it would be SO easy for the next couple of months while it "grows" (what little is there) to rub some Rogaine in there. I don't have to worry about if it makes me greasy or anything either because I put a wig on anyway so I figured why not - a last ditch effort while it's convenient to do it. So I opted for the Men's version, extra strength (I figure if my body is gonna act like a man, I might as well treat it like a man).

So just curious if any of you have tried the men's 5% and did it work for you? How long did it take to see results? The box says 2-4 months but being a women, although our testosterone gets high, it's still not as high as a man's so maybe it works faster? Not that it matters because even if I grew it all back thick tomorrow I'd still have to wait for it to grow out....or walk around buzzed, lol. Also, did you use actual Rogaine brand or a generic? Rogaine was $45 for 3 months and the Wal-Mart Equate brand was $18 for 3 months. The ingredients are listed as the exact same things so I went cheap. But I guess that doesn't mean it's always a good product either.

I am thinking about starting the 5% as well. My only concern is that it has been shown in clinical studies to increase body hair. Kind of a gamble.

According to the bottle, the reasons that it's not for use in women is because of what you said, extra hair growth, and possible breast feeding/birth issues. But I mean come on, I have pcos, I've already got increased body hair, what's a few more? lol. The hair on my body is easy to wax and/or shave off and look normal, but losing my head hair is not as easy to deal with physically or emotionally so I'll take my chances. I'm not TTC so no worries there. If I notice the body hair going crazy or some weird side effects, I'll stop doing it, but so far so good. No issues.
