My Mood: Points: 4,933.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,933.91 | ROLL CALL Hi all. (I would put an exclamation point if I could but my DS took that button off the computer, hee hee.....
How about a roll call? What stage of adoption is everyone in (even if you have just started THINKING about it, or if you have already adopted).
I'll start...
DH and I have been home with our DS since september now. He is so cute and his big interest now is in watching "Shrek" every minute of the day (and he is under age 2), or telling everyone I am his Mama. He is getting SO big
DH and I just very recently lost a baby to an eptopic pregnancy (we weren't trying to get pregnant), but now we are contemplating another adoption. But we are so enjoying our new parenthood that we are ready to wait a bit to make that decision.
Let me know where you all are in the process....

DH and I are currently working on our homestudy. We've got most of the paperwork done. Illinois requires a national background check if you haven't lived here for 5 years. The social worker tells us that could take 6 months! We'll have lived here 5 years in May, so we won't "officially" begin our homestudy until then so that we can just have the state wide background check that takes 30 days! Our social worker is very nice though and is letting us send some stuff in early for him to review so that we can get things done ASAP in May
In the mean time, we're also working on gatherring the papers for our dossier. Some of this stuff is really confusing so I hope we get it right! We sent in our I600A and have our fingerprint appointments.
It's all starting to seem so REAL! DH even let me go buy a little bit of baby stuff as a birthday present last month! We got "I Love Mommy!" and "I Love Daddy!" bibs and a little race car steering wheel that lights up and makes beep beep and vroom vroom noises DH is working on clearing his computer out of what will be Sam's room (yes, we've already named him) and when he's done with that I'm going to start painting! I love to play with paint!
Ahhh! I get entirely too excited when I get on this topic, and it's midnight, I should stop now or I'll be up all night!

Calantha--you are wise to start the paperwork now. Might as well--then when May comes you will be nearly completed preparing your dossier! YAY for you!
As for us, I post every update I get because I just get so excited. We found out yesterday that our dossier was logged in on February 18th--it was sent to China on the 13th. It's thrilling to have another step to cross off my list!! Currently the wait time stands at around 12-13 months till referral, but rumors are flying that it'll be shortened! YAY! (I posted about that on my post about receiving my log in date! )
Thanks again for this thread, Michelle. I'll enjoy reading everyone's progress!

Points: 1,530.04 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,530.04 | We are in the process of adopting 6 embryos. DH and I are trying an embryo adoption. This will give me a chance to be pregnant (if they implant). We were given 7 profiles to choose from. Our first choice fit our looks, height, eye color...etc, but someone else had chosen it, so we went with our second choice. The child will look nothing like us. I was pretty upset about it at first, but then remembered we're doing this so I can be pregnant. If we adopted through a conventional method we probably wouldn't get a child that looked like us either. We have to go in for an orientation on the 24th of April and then we can go ahead with the transfer. This will be like any other FET. There are no guarentees, but I'm ok with that. I'm still getting used to the fact that I won't (or it's highly unlikely) have a biological child. If this doesn't work then we'll start the application process for domestic adoption.
Well, that's my story so far.

My Mood: Points: 5,227.62 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,227.62 | My roll call details are already pretty much in the signature at the bottom! As soon as I get a full time job with benefits (which seems like such an impossibility for me these days) and sign my mom's car into my name and get a 2 or 3 BR apartment, the _very_ next thing I will be doing will be calling up to start a homestudy for a single parent older child domestic adoption (say that phrase 5 times fast!). I believe I will be looking for ages 5-13, with a preference for about 6-10.
Do any of YOU have job leads for me? |

I guess I found out about it when I did a search for adoption or embryo quality on the web. After I had read some things on it the web I asked my RE if they had an embryo adoption program here and she said they did. We won't have to do a lot of paper work or have home studies done, just sign some concent forms. Right now the FDA doesn't regulate all embryo adoption programs. Starting in Jan. 2004 they will. At that time embryo adoptions will more than likely proceed like other adoptions -- homestudies, backround checks, biological parents picking adoptive parents...etc. This is a cheaper alternative to a conventional adoption and to egg donation programs, at least at my clinic. If you have any other questions I'll be happy to answer them if I can.

Dh and I are adopting from Guatemala.
I just had my physical done- (DUMB DOCTOR) she mailed the letter she messed up on- BUT IT WAS THE WHITED OUT LETTER- SHE MESSED UP ON!!!!!!! INSTEAD OF DOING IT OVER THE CORRECT WAY!!!!!!! IDIOT
anyway...
our first homestudy meeting is SUNDAY!!!!!!!! She's (SW) is coming to our house she said she sits in the living room and we talk about the house- and then the other papers in the agency packet- the books we read. etc.. then in 7-10 days later we'll meet halfway in a resturant and do our 2nd meeting. Then she'll type it up! that's it!!!! Her dh is the minister at my hometown church so they know my mom/dad- really well- and her DH helped marry dh and I!!!!!! so we met one other time- asked her a whole lot of questions- agency opitions and she guided us to BCS.
We sent our I-600A about 3 weeks ago- and had our fingerprints done about 2 weeks ago- and waiting on that. no biggy-
Dh's physical is on Monday. that's all we have left for the dossier- the typed SW report- and doctor reports : )
SW told us that it would be 6-8 months from the day she called-
she said she just did another Guatemala adoption and when they turned in their dossier it took all of 4 months- and they were home with their child already!!!!!
Going so quick now!
Can't wait to have
Joel Henry or Rosaria Lynn home!!! (or find out- the referral if it will be a girl or boy!)

Points: 1,528.35 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,528.35 | DH and I are trying to finish up on our questions from LSS's(lutheran social services) and on monday I will be calling to schedule our finger printing appointment and also our physicals. We plan on sending in our application by the end of the month(March). Still haven't figured out how we are going to come up with the money after spending our lives savings on fertility meds, but where there's a will there's a way and hopefully God will show us the way to afford this. I am just scared that we will be disqualified because of bad credit, our credit rating went down the tubes since 1999 when we started ttc.

I'm Jen and DH is Greg. We are adopting our son, Zach, from Guatemala. He is 7 1/2 months old. We are currently in PGN. We've been in since 2/27/03, so we are hoping we might get out soon. Our agency expects us to travel 3 to 4 weeks after we get out of PGN.
KGJacob,
I love the new picture of Gabriel.
