I'm wondering if anyone else has rosacea and what they're using in general to control it, or to cover it up (make up). Am I the only one?

gawd yeah I suffer from it and my skin is really bad just now. flushed colour, dry areas, sore red pimples bursting out all over the place and broken veins too. I have gel from the doctor but I keep forgetting to use it.
If you have any hints or natural potions that help, send them my way.

I have tried everything my Dermo gave me and nothing seemed to work. I actually broke out in hives with one of the products she gave me. It was horrible I use Aveeno products to wash and to moisturize. They have a line for redness that doesn't cause me to break out and if I use the lotion daily, my face doesn't flake/peel and looks better. That's the only thing I've been able to find so far. I'd love to find something to actually make the redness go away though.

I was given Noritate cream for rosacea from the dermatologist. I am not great at using it because it makes my face feel really dry and the texture looks funny. I use Cetaphil cleaner and moisturize everyday with a product that contains SPF 30. I moisturize again at night after I was my face. I use a brand called La Roche Posay.
I get super red all over my face when I work out. It is so ridiculous...I look like I am going to pass out and I'm not even out of breath. I get red all the time! I haven't found anything yet that really helps me yet.
I remember one day at the gym, as I was heading down the stairs this lady asked me if I was okay and needed to sit down. I was fine, but she was really conserned about my red face. She thought I was going to pass out. lol My face is always red and that makes me really self conscious, especially when it's hot outside. I told my BF we should move to the East Coast where it's cold half the year LOL

I hear you! It is nice that people care but it can be embarassing sometimes. I never had rosacea until a few years ago. Not sure why all the sudden I started gettting super red. Everyone loves it when I have rosy cheeks...you know, you don't need to wear blush. Thanks, but I don't wear any makeup at all so why do I care about blush? On the positve side everyone thinks I am in my mid twenties at the most because my I do have really nice skin despite the redness with no lines or wrinkles yet at all(I am turning 35 in June!). I get red in the winter too when I am outside so not sure what climate would be good for me lol!
I'm on Metrogel and I've used it twice a day for a couple of days, but yesterday I developed really dry watery eyes and my skin feels like I've rubbed sandpaper on it. I don't know if its the metrogel or my rosacea thats causing it but when I tried to use my bronzing powder this morning, the brush really hurt my skin

I have it and I'm actually going back to the derm in July to get some new medicine. I was using Finacea which worked great but I never got it refilled. I got a new derm and hopefully he'll be able to help me.
I don't wear any makeup or use anything abrasive on my face. I also don't use anything with fragrance.
Eucerin has a really good line of redness-reducing/hiding products. Some have a green tint but others don't. I use it and it's great. It's pricey but well worth it.
I was using Metrogel, but like georgy, got a weird reaction to it.
Here's a tip that has made my rosacea all but go away...
I am finding that just using water on my face (lukewarm, never hot) is the best way to wash. If I need soap, I put a little of the Dove for Sensitive Skin (bar soap, haven't tried the liquid) with lots of warm water on my hands and foam it up a bit and then rinse with lots of the warm, not hot water.
For makeup, I need undereye concealer made by a Canadian company called "Cargo". It's the only one that doesn't irritate my eyes.
I cover my nose and forhead area with a concealer stick from a company called CiCi in shade No. 2 (it has 4 shades) that I got at a beauty supply house. Then I apply Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup in "Illusion" made by Urban Decay all over my face and neck. It's great and blends right in and has not irritated my skin so far.
A great sunscreen for the face that hasn't irritated my skin so far is "Purpose" made by Johnson and Johnson. I got it at Walgreen's drugstore. It's SPF 15, but I just visited their website and it looks like they might have an even better product called a Redness Reducing sunscreen that's SPF 30! Hmmm, I will have to look for that.
I use Dermalogica products and they work for me. I used a facecloth the other day and it was a bad idea so I advise anyone not to use anything that causes friction - even gentle friction, on their face.
I must look up those recommendations there Kat and Annie, they sound fab.

I'm glad you posted about the Demalogica products, georgy because I lost your e-mail that you sent me about it. I think I will try them sometime. You are SO right about the facecloths, too! I usually just rub with my fingers anymore on my face. Any washcloth seems to really irritate my skin.
Rosettagirl- I worked in a cosmetic department once and they always asked me what kind of blush I used. It use to tick me off because here I was trying to hide it and they were asking for it! LOL I get complimented for looking young-er too. I'm going to be 32 in a few weeks and they think I'm in my 20s too at school. I figure it's a plus to my minus (rosacea) lol
Dberg- I'm going to look it up. Are you still able to use it even while pregnant? Or did you have to stop? Congratulations!! Just a few more weeks and he's almost here!!
Georgy- My Dermo said it was one of the best for rosacea, but Metrogel really irritated my skin. Were you able to use it again or did it continue to irritate you? I try not to use anything but my hands anymore to wash my face. I get really flaky so I thought a face scrubber thing would be a good idea but I REALLY regretted it later on. I'll look up the Dermalogica products. Thank you! By the way, I LOVE the goonies
AnnieC- Finacea worked well to moisurize my skin. It was the only thing I used besides the Aveno. I'm going to look into your site. Thank you!
Kathryn- I'm going to try looking up some of the make up places. Thank you! I'm using Loreal's True Match right now and I feel like I'm in between shades lol It covers well, but my face has been clumping with it lately. You can really see it in my pores sometimes and it looks like I'm wearing A LOT of make up. Grrr!!
Today I went out to dinner with my DBF and I felt like my make up looked caked on. He said I looked really pretty, but I felt like the make up was clumping and you could see my pores really badly. One of my classmates told me to use a mint julip (sp) mask and I tried to today. It felt SO nice. Tightened my skin and left it feeling really soft. I was waiting to wash off the mask and have my face peel off LMAO It reminded me of this cucumber mask I use to wear when I was younger. I'm hoping that it helps out with my pores like the cucumber mask did. Has anyone tried it? It's like 4 bucks and it works nice!
Do any of you avoid certain foods? I read certain foods trigger flare ups and cause your face to get even more red? Also, does anyone else in your family have rosacea? I'm curious.

Aymen, I've not used the Metrogel for a couple of days now. I'm giving my skin a break and then starting again - if it flares up then I'll know that its the metrogel that doesn't agree. If it doesn't flare up but my skin is still bad with the rosacea then I'll know that the metrogel isn't working for me.

Aymen: I guess trigger foods for me are spicy/hot foods and any kind of alcohol. I don't drink very often but I get red face after one glass of wine. Crazy. I was talking to another girl at work today who gets "rosy" too! We were comparing notes about how red we get when working out. It is so nice that people think you are having a heart attack while exercising because you go beet red! lol! My mom and dad don't have any rosacea and that is pretty much where history ends for me. Both my parents are adopted so family history is sparse at best.
