Butterflykisses, I am a cyster that has rosacea. I didn't know what I had going on with my face until December of 2005. Up until then, my face was awfuly flushed especially around my cheek area, and the small rosacea bumps were quite prominent, my skin was really dry in patches, and it burned. The doctors prescribed Metrogel medication and a special face wash, and recommended an over the counter moisturizer. I never went back for a refill of my rosacea medications nor the face wash however.
But I do use the moisturizer on a regular basis, it's something that you are already using, which is the Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturizer with SPF 15. The dermatologist informed me that the worst thing for rosacea is unprotected sun exposure, so since using this moisturizer, my rosacea has really reduced and my skin feels very smooth. I also put on coconut oil on my cheeks at night, which I read is helpful for rosacea. I also suffer from acne, but diet is the best cure for that for me. Due to the acne, for my recent dermatology visit, my dr. recommended Neutrogena Oil free acne wash, which does not dry my skin and has helped with the acne problem. I must agree with you, in that antibiotics for the rest of your life to help with the rosacea problem is not something that sounds like a good treatment. Antibiotics long-term are not good for the body in many ways. Talk to your doctor about alternatives. The best of luck, I know what you're going through.
