My Dh and I have started taking Royal Jelly about a week ago and there is a big difference. We definitely have alot more energy. Also I notice that my brain fog is gone. I just feel better in general. If you do a search on here for Royal Jelly (if you haven't already), you will get alot of valuable information. HTH

Ok. If you don't find this horrifying, then i guess you will take the risks. No way in hell i would.
Royal jelly, which is secreted from the salivary glands of worker bees, serves as food for all young larvae and as the only food for larvae that will develop into queen bees. Like bee pollen, it has been falsely claimed to be especially nutritious, to provide buoyant energy, and to have therapeutic properties. Bee pollen and royal jelly should be regarded as potentially dangerous because they cause allergic reactions.
"In January 1996 it was reported that there had been a further death from royal jelly. A twenty-three year old woman was reported to have died in Hornsby Hospital after the consumption of royal jelly. Investigations revealed that the royal jelly had been purchased in Hornsby and did not have the warning statement as required by the Food Standards Code. The New South Wales Department of Health has now taken action to enforce the warning statement requirement and inspectors have been instructed to seek the co-operation of sellers by requesting that they remove from sale all product which does not have the warning statement until they place overstickers on the packages. If there if no co- operation the product is to be seized. The penalty provided for the sale of packages which do not contain the warning statement is $5,000 or six months' imprisonment or both fine and imprisonment. Perhaps if a little enforcement by prosecution for this offence had been taken when we reported this deficiency the life of the latest victim might have been saved. We will be interested to hear, and will publish, any explanation by the Department of Health of their failure to enforce the code. A further survey revealed that in February 1996 there are still packages of royal jelly on sale without the warning statement."
Just a comment from me here, right beside the links on google is is an adverisment for Royal Jelly. One of the group of people it is trying to sell it to are asthmatics! The very group that has the highest death rate from taking it. Says a lot about how reputable those companies are, doesn't it?
Bee pollen is plant pollen carried by bees to the hive where it is gathered by placing brushes at the hive's entrance knocking the pollen off the bees as they enter. Bee pollen is said to consist of 40% plant carbohydrate, 5% plant fat, and 5% plant protein--the remaining 50% is fungus, bacteria, insect body parts and hairs, mites, and bee fecal material [1]. As anyone with hay fever knows, pollens are among the most allergic substances in nature [2]. The popularity of idea that bee pollen is healthful is hard to understand considering the widespread public knowledge of allergies. However, one must also take into consideration the fascination many have with any bee-related substance. Other bee-related items that have caught the public's fancy are royal jelly (fed to queen bees to make them fertile), propolis (the glue that holds hive parts together), honey (bee vomit), honey comb (bee's wax and vomit), and even bee stings for arthritis or multiple sclerosis. None of these have proven scientific value, and several have potential for harm. Although rare bee-related items can cause serious, even fatal reactions; to wit: royal jelly (an 11-year-old Australian girl with asthma died after taking royal jelly [3] bee pollen (allergic anaphylaxis [4]), honey (can be toxic [5-6] or cause infant botulism [7]), and bee stings (allergic anaphylaxis) [8].
Bee pollen is sold as a herbal remedy (pollen is a plant part which classifies it as an herbal). Because of poorly controlled manufacturing practices of herbal remedy makers, bee pollen capsules may be adulterated with many other substances. The most famous bee pollen success story of recent times occurred when Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) became convinced that bee pollen pills had cured his allergies. His enthusiasm motivated him to pursue the establishment of the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine. The product he used was Aller Bee-Gone, a secret-mix concoction which included more than just bee pollen hawked by Royden Brown of Arizona [9]. Not long after converting Harkin to his bee pollen cure, Brown's CC Pollen Company was fined $200,000 by the Federal Trade Commission for falsely claiming that his bee pollen products could cause consumers to lose weight, alleviate permanently their allergy symptoms, and reverse the aging process [10].
There is no reason to believe that bee pollen has special benefits. Although rare, it can cause serious adverse reactions to some users. Considering its cost and cleanliness, bee pollen is best left to the bees.
Ok, here is the best solution. Go to an allergy doctor and get tested to see if you are allergic to bee pollen, and bees in general. The prople that die from the Royal Jelly are ones who die from anafalactic shock (an allergic reaction). If the proper precautions had been taken and these prople had done their homework on Royal Jelly before starting it, then they would probably still be living today. I don't know what the Royal Jelly does for TTCers, besides the energy boost. Everything you do has dangers...driving your car, crossing the street, breathing the air around you. We cannot live in fear, instead we need to educate ourselves and take appropriate measures to make sure we will not be effected negativly by the things we choose to put in our bodies .... BTW, more people die in auto accidents then anafalactic shock (especially from Royal Jelly). We just need to stay educated and keep it all in perspective.

Very well said.
As I said in my previous post, "The relatively few deaths that occur from ingesting royal jelly tend to come from people with severe allergies to bees and bee stings." Nothing horrifying at all. People die from allergic reactions all the time. That doesn't make things that cause allergies inherantly dangerous for the population at large.

Thank you Ajani. I wasn't going to post anything, then I read the responses and I really felt like I needed to say something, so I did. There are some people that do have deadly reactions to alot of things, but Royal Jelly is pretty low on the list

Thanks toogasmamma, anything that will make them research what they are about to take is great!! Far too many people just take the opinions of others without really checking it out.
I chose not to take it, even though i don't have any allergies. Yes, more people die in cars etc, but then more people drive cars. The % of people that die of anaphalactic shock via some alternative meds is actually higher. I am not TTC, so for me the risks didn't outweigh the benefits.
For those that research it, and decide it is an acceptable risk, i wish you all the best. For those TTC, "babydust" as well.
LOL, Honey = Bee Vomit. Hmm, so what exactly would Molasses be from trees? Blood, Sweet, or...other unmentionables?
Anyway, I think that Royal Jelly as a whole may boost hormones that we may not want. However, I do know that Bee Propolis is estrogenic and therefore should boost SHBG, which we all know will bind more Free Testosterone.
If that helps anyone
