Hi! I was travelling and came across royal jelly at a honeymaker's stand, so I bought some. Has anyone got pregnant with this stuff? My thinking is that it doesn't do much of anything (unless you're a honey bee), but I felt like it wouldn't hurt to add it in.
Also, if anyone's had any experiences of why they DON'T take it anymore, let me know those too.
Thanks!

I just started taking it, but I'm not sure I'm going to continue. I read an article that it contained natural DHEA (and natural estrogen), and am not quite sure how accurate that is, but I already have high DHEA. But it did drop my blood sugar a few points, and I've also read in studies it can rid the body of exogenous progesterone in the follicular phase.

Thanks ladies-- it's been interesting to research. Sounds like all bees eat a little bit of it in the early larvae stages, it's just that the queen eventually eats only this, and one other kind eats a mix of honey and royal jelly. So I'm not sure what to make of my royal jelly in honey-- I'm taking straight royal jelly capsules plus the RJ in honey together at the same time. My guess is that it'll be good for the extra B vitamins I get. I do wonder if it'll have an effect on my egg quality, but that's hard to measure, of course.

From what I have googled so far, I think the hormone thing has been disproved, although one said that there are trace amts. of testosterone, which were so small that it didn't reflect in testosterone levels. One of the pubmed studies mentioned that also. Also a small portion of RJ properties are "unknown" substances.
And a pubmed study says: Effect of long-term treatment with royal jelly on insulin resistance in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats]
[Article in Japanese]

Royal jelly (RJ) is known to have abundant nutritional properties and a variety of biological activities. To investigate the effects of RJ on insulin resistance, 10-week-old Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats, a type 2 diabetic model, were treated for 4 weeks with RJ (10, 30, and 300 mg/kg, p.o.). RJ treatment tended to decrease systolic blood pressure and significantly decreased serum levels of insulin and the Homeostasis Model Assessment ratio, an index of insulin resistance. In isolated and perfused mesenteric vascular beds of OLETF rats, RJ treatment resulted in significant reduction of the sympathetic nerve-mediated vasoconstrictor response to periarterial nerve stimulation (PNS) and potentiation of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) nerve-mediated vasodilator response to PNS, compared with that in untreated OLETF rats. However, RJ treatment did not significantly affect norepinephrine-induced vasoconstriction and CGRP-induced vasodilation. These results suggest that RJ could be an effective and functional food to prevent the development of insulin resistance.
Sorry, I study things to death before I continue taking something. Could be the increased pgy rates with RJ could be also related to killing bacteria & immune modulating too, and even blood thinning which can interfere with implantation & pgy. No results on egg quality, but I have heard from some women on an over 40 board that their antral count & response on IF meds increased. Although I think most were also taking DHEA (which wouldn't be good for PCOSers). It also has been mentioned to be helpful with hypothyroidism.
