Default Was this a ruptured cyst or a torsion cyst?

Friday night I went to bed just like any other night, but was woken up at 1:00 AM with a searing pain all throughout my lower abdomen. I laid there for a minute trying to decipher how bad it really was and it got so bad that I could hardly sit up. I am usually really good about pain. Even at its worst, I can push through it. This was different. I tried to wake my husband up to get me some meds because I couldn't move, but I couldn't talk loud enough. My crying finally woke him up and I was able to choke out that I needed something for pain. My abdomen was huge and it felt like I had trapped gas. I thought that maybe using the bathroom would help so I staggered to the bathroom as best as I could, but the pain was so severe that I started to pass out! My hubby caught me and helped me to sit down and then I proceeded to get sick. WONDERFUL!! It was at that point I decided that I needed to visit the hospital. Sorry if this is too much info, but I did use the bathroom before I left and it seemed to help a little bit. I managed to get to the car and, since we had to drop our two kids off at their grandparents house on the way, it took us about 30 minutes to get to the hospital. I was still in moderate pain when we got there, but they gave me a shot of Tordahl (sorry for spelling) and that brought it down quite a bit. The doctor did blood tests to check for infection, but he did not do an ultrasound to check anything. I was released with a prescription for pain pills and told to check with my doctor on Tuesday (Memorial Day weekend). I had mild pain for a day or two, but never bad enough to take anything (I usually try not to).

I'm wondering if the passing out and vomiting is normally that severe for a ruptured cyst or is it possible that I had a torsion cyst? I wouldn't think that the pain of a torsion cyst would go away, would it?

Thanks for any feedback you can give!!

Hi, I had a smiliar experience when I had a cyst rupture. Not to say that is what yours was, but def push for an ultrasound to see what is going on in there. They did an ultrasound on me and were able to find lots of fluid from the rupture. They watched it for a few months & it finally reabsorbed.

I was unconscious by the time my parents took me to the ER (I was living in a dorm room & a sorority sister called them to say I was unconscious). I had been having lower back pain & swelling for a few weeks beforehand but I just ignored it. I was in pain for hours before I was taken to the hospital! I feel your pain! So sorry!

Good luck and be sure they check you out really well.

Hugs

Sounds like a ruptured Cyst, torsion typically does not go away. It can cause high fever, and even a change in skin color with chills and sweats.

Sometimes Cysts can lob back and forth if they are large and unstable, i have one right now on my right that is 7cm X 8cm and it is constantly shifting positions, that too can cause Excruciating pain that will come and go.

I get a large cyst almost every month and the ones that rupture are truly painful and sound a lot like what you described. I hope everything worked out for you.
