Question Rush of Adrenaline/Anxiety Feeling

Hi

I am 28 years old and I was diagnosed with PCOS 11 years ago when I was a Jr. in high school. I have battled anxiety/panic attacks off and on since 4th grade and very recently (ie, the past 6 months) I have begun to feel a panicky feeling without anything setting it off. The way I describe the feeling is that it feels as though I am suddenly falling off a building or as if someone just jumped out of a dark alley and scared me. It only lasts about 30 seconds, but it feels like the very first few seconds after you get scared suddenly. Like a falling sensation or a cold rush all through my chest that spreads through the rest of my body in the following seconds. The feeling itself makes me feel scared sometimes because it is so sudden, and I think this makes my heart rate increase a little bit. I don't sweat or anything, but I do feel slightly dizzy immediately afterward on some occasions. Some of these "feelings" are more intense than others.
I explained it to my gyno and she said that it could be hormonal and that I should note when I am having it most often. (It comes and goes in waves).
I have now realized that it happens most frequently in the week leading to my period. My PCOS symptoms have also been increasing (weight gain, my period is now even more infrequent and only lasts about a day) and I am wondering if anyone else here has experienced this feeling and if it has anything to do with PCOS specifically. I am convinced that it's hormonal, but is it actually a PCOS symptom?
Please let me know if anyone has experienced anything like this and if you did anything to ease it.

thanks!!

I'm not sure that it is an "official" PCOS symptom, but I can totally relate. My anxiety gets worse leading right up to my period, throughout and shortly after... it really stinks and it's very alarming

Default me too...

Hey there Keener,

I have this too- only my heart rate goes way up, and my blood pressure does, and I feel dizzy and like I have to run to the bathroom, and that I might pass out and this feeling last for hours... the longest one I've ever had lasted 5 hours.... it was a nightmare.

I've tried to explain to my dr. that I think it's hormone related (worse the week before my period), and they only want to put me on BCPs. But, I have a family history of heart attacks and blood clots.... so...

I've almost been let go of a job over these episodes... My cortisol is fine, I don't even have any adrenal problems-so since there is no blood work related answer, they want to think it's anxiety. It's hard to get dr.'s to understand that they are not "anxiety" really... For me anyway... it happens even when I'm just chilling on the couch with my Hubby... :-/

Good luck with things...

Lulu
