Question It's just a lot to deal with

Hello, I'm new here and I firstly wanted to say how wonderful it is that there is a support group for all of us who have or are associated with PCOS. What a relief. The following is very long but I appreciate anyone who reads it:

I was diagnosed with PCOS December 27, 2007 (what a christmas present that was!) My doctor advised me to have a good look on the internet to become familiar with PCOS. When I surfed webmd.com I was shocked. I'm sure I've had PCOS for a lot longer than I've been diagnosed (probably since my teens). All the sudden having a hard time with weight, blood pressure, extra hair and crazy periods made sense.

My PCOS symptoms are perhaps a little unusual. (I have no one IRL to compare to). And this is where I ask for anyones advice. Perhaps you've been in my situation:

I have had my period for more than 2 years straight. It let up for one day last year and then started again. It's so heavy that I've had to take time off from work. No matter what, it does not stop. Now because of high blood pressure, I couldn't just go on the BCP. In April, I had a D&C, hysteroscopy and IUD (Mirena) insertion in a single surgery. All tests associated with this test came back good. These procedures were supposed to stop the bleeding. My doctor put me on cyklokapron and metphormin to help with the bleeding but I haven't noticed any difference. I'm only taking the metphormin once a day currently because it bothers my stomach quite a bit (I had taken it up to 3 times a day but didn't notice a difference). I'm currently off work because it's so heavy that I need to be near a bathroom at all times. They're calling it menorhaggia (sp?).

My ob/gyn insisted that about a month after this surgery, my period would finally stop. I was elated. I don't remember what it feels like to be 'normal'. Well a month passed and nothing changed -- I went in for my check up and was told 'give it another month' and to keep taking cyklokapron and metphormin.

Well I'm due for my next appointment right away and it has not stopped at ALL. I'm not sure if my ob/gyn is out of solutions or what at this point but she doesn't seem very concerned. Everyday that it continues this way, I feel exhausted, sore and am becoming depressed. I have huge anxiety about leaving the house because I could "overflow" at any minute because my period is so heavy.

If you've been in my shoes or have any ideas or solutions I would so greatly appreciate it. I'm at the point where my work has suspended me for being sick so often and I don't think they'll be happy about me extending my leave of absence.

Thank you in advance

I'm so sorry youre going through this and althought I dont have any ideas off hand on what may help you I can say I know an ounce of what you're going through and how painful and tiring having the never ending AF can be. I had a period that lasted for many months on end a couple years ago. My doctor was concerned about putting me on BCPs aswell because of my high blood pressure, but it is the only thing that has worked for me. I remember those days not wanting to leave the house, because every time I'd move I'd leak out. I remember waking up in the morning and having to walk with my legs crossed to "keep it in" until the bathroom, and when someone else was in the bathroom, I had no other choice but *TMI* ......to "catch" it in a wad of paper towels. I really hope you get this straightened out, I remember it being so painful and stressful. I wish you the best.

In the mean time, welcome to the site. There are wonderful helpful women on here. Maybe one of them will have a better idea on how to help. I wish I could as I have been there before. *hugs*

I hate to be the one to say the 'H' word, but I honestly think your best advice will come from www.hystersisters.com

On the forum, their is a board dedicated to Alternatives to Hysterectomy. I've seen more ladies having your situation there then on this board. And I feel comfortable posting the link because many of the mods refer those with PCOS questions to this site.
