Well I seen the consultant this morning, the one I should have seen did not show up this morning so they drafted in a locum to see his patients. She was running 30 minutes late, but I kept myself busy in the waiting room reading my book! Lol
She confirmed it was PCOS, with my left ovary having been the worse with more that 15 follicles (I need to look this up more) She talked about the pill but of course I know this is not practical as I am so overweight and there is the risk of blood clots. So she thoroughly recommends going onto Metformin as of course it will help with the weight, hopefully regulate my cycle and control my Blood Sugar for my type 2, diabetes.
She told me she would write to my GP and get them to prescribe it via the diabetes route as it means I would then get them on a free prescription here in the UK which of course will save me lots of pennies. She was really nice very through and I am so glad to finally get a diagnosis. I know some people would be far from happy at hearing this but it’s been so long getting to now that I am pleased I can finally explain why I have been the way I have been most of my life!
Of course my weight is the serious issue now and I will make 2006 the year I do something!
I took my HBA1C blood test also this morning as I needed to have it done again for my diabetic review in December, so I figured to have it done now and then I can get the results and discuss starting the Metformin. I already made an appointment with my diabetic nurse on 13th December.
So full steam ahead, let’s hope the Metformin will help shed some pounds. The consultant wants to see me again in 6 months to follow it up.
Now I have to go tidy up and start packing my suitcase for Sweden tomorrow…. I so need this holiday, it will be a great time to put things into perspective and plan for what I need to do in the future.
Sweden here I come, hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll catch up with you all when I am back. For those reading my blog be sure to tune in as no doubt I will update it sometime whilst I am on holiday as we have internet access….
Oh and I am going to bored you all with photos when I get back, I am taking two cameras! I’ll upload them all to Photobucket so you can all have a nose!
I'm glad you finally got a DX. That's also great that they're prescribing you Metformin for free. Those damn prescriptions every month or two soon add up Maybe I shold drop some hints to my doc!
We have something else in common, my left ovary is also my worst by quite far. Can't remember how many now.
Enjoy your holiday!
