Cool SA Newbie

Hi everyone
I'm new to this forum but very familiar with PCOS. I was diagnosed at about 15yo (15 years ago!) when I presented symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, excess body hair and acne. I was put on diane (contraceptive pill) and haven't been off it since. I'm about to start TTC and I'm a bit scared of going off the pill!
I went to see an dr and she recommended CSIRO diet (I'm about 15kg overweight), metformin and a pregnancy multi vitatmin. I have taken all of this advice on board and am currently on 250g metformin a day, increasing by 250g each week until I hit 2000mg. I have about two 1/2 weeks left of my current pill cycle before stopping.
I'm really interested in other people's experiences of TTC, especially coming off the pill for the first time in years. I'm scared I'm going to turn into a fat, hairy, pimply monster!

Welcome to SC! & good luck with Metformin & TTC.

I have been on the pill for years now and not keen to come off - mostly because I don't want a baby right now but I am also fearful of turning into that fat hairy pimply monster! LOL

In all seriousness, if you're looking after your body there is no reason why things would go downhill for you. Keep your exercise up and your diet in check and also metformin will help a lot!

Heya!

HAve a look in the TTC forum and see if there are any threads there that talk about the same thing. I can however let you know that I went off the pill after ten years of being on it (I was on the same one as you actually) and so far things are going ok, I have a few more pimples, and a shadow of a mo which I can deal with.

As for my periods, they have taken a while to get back into shape. But if your taking metformin then I think you should be pretty good. I would say make sure you are trying from the first month off the pill, that seems to be a month that a lot of people ovulate then it might take another couple of months until it happens again.

All the best with TTC!!

thanks for the welcome, februarystar, i'm really working hard on the diet and exercise. the metformin is giving me grief though - i got a weird rash last night, and it's still there this morning, i assume it's from the met. i gather that it will pass in a few days (fingers crossed!)
