Default SA Time

It's now my hubby's time to come out and play and get some tests done. He's a little nervous and I want to give him some words of encouragement. Any suggestions?

When it was time for DH to get tested,my ob was going to send us to their lab and I was kinda annoyed that we had to pay up front and not with insurance..plus her office isn't super convenient to get too. DH was also not too keen on going to some strange office for the test....which I can't blame him for...I wouldn't want to try to preform locked in some room at a docs office...lol.

So I called his docs office explained to a nurse that I wanted to be able to get it through insurance and hopefully closer (his docs office is way easier to get too) and she sent us an order from his docs office for the test at the local hospital instead.

When I called the hospitals lab and they let me pick up the container and take it home then just set up a time we would drop of the sample. They said as long as the "sample" was delivered within an hour and kept at body temp then it was ok to collect at home.

The morning he was going to take the test I was able to give him some "encouragement" and then he jumped out of bed and went to take care of things

Then he went and dropped of the sample. I really liked being part of his process..especially since he had always been with me for all my tests and treatments..I wanted not to seem so clinical if that makes sense.

We got his test results the next day from his doc and everything looked great, so collecting it here didn't seem to hurt. They gave us a copy of the report which I was able to take to my OB and then to my RE later which was nice having our own copy.

Plus instead of paying the $150 up front that the OBs lab wanted and then trying to get the money back from insurance, the hospital just billed insurance and then we just got a bill for like $10 or something similiar for our portion.

Maybe your lab will let your DH do the same, I am sure it was more "fun" for DH that I got to help get things started

and like I said...I really liked being able to "help".

HTH!!

My DH tried to reassure me his swimmers were "fine" since he already has 3 kids from a previous marriage. Our dr told us that he still needed an SA since it'd been ten years since he had his last child. He kept making excuses and putting it off, but I basically told him I couldn't get started with clomid and treatment until he got his SA done (dr's orders!) so we collected at home and then drove it to the lab. His came back good and he said "look at what all I'm willing to go through to have a baby!" and I'm just like "no you did not just say that!" Luckily it was a joke but I think he was just nervous all along to hear bad news. I told him up front that no matter what the SA results were, we're in this together...

Thanks for the replies. My friend was telling me that her and her husband had to do his in a bathroom stall at the hospital and that it was awkward and weird. The cleaning lady kept knocking on the door, telling them the floor was wet and they needed to use another bathroom! Ha! I almost died laughing and did not want to go through that.
DH also assumes that his sperm are fine, and he's never had a child. My RE won't start me on the Clomid until I temp and chart for one month, DH has the SA, and I possibly have an HSG. To me, this is the easy one!
