I am going grocery shopping today and I want to try salmon. But I am not a real big fish person.(Unless it is battered and fried!HA!) I was wondering if anyone has a good flavorful recipe for it? Thanks Whitty
I'm not a big fish eater either, but I do like Atlantic salmon (I don't like Pacific - what a snob, eh?). I find that it doesn't have a really fishy taste to it. I usually just coat both sides in a mixture of flour and salt and pepper, then pan fry. Of course, it's good baked and steamed as well if you're looking to be a little healthier. You can also buy different Shake n' Bake-like coatings at the grocery like maple glaze. I imagine you can make these things yourself, but I have no recipe.

You can drizzle it with olive oil and a little cajun seasoning and bake or grill it. just before you serve it squeeze a little fresh lime juice over it.
You can put some tinfoil down, place your salmon in the middle, season it with some salt, pepper or I love Lawry's Seasoning Salt. Put some minced garlic on it, lemon juice, cut some strips of bell peppers, slices of onions, put a dab of butter on top, make a packet with your tinfoil, you can either bake it or put it on a grill, has a great taste!
You can get a can of crushed pineapple and make another tinfoil packet and put your salmon in the middle put the small can of crushed pineapple on the salmon add a little soy sauce and bake it or put it on the grill.
They sell alot of wet marinades or dry rubs that are great for fish.
Thanks girls I tried it with just parsley and butter and it was not too bad but it was still a little too fishy for me.So I think I need to put more seasoning on it. these recipes sounds pretty great keep them coming!
Ok girls thanks for all the help but I just had to tell ya this! It is kinda funny!! I was so worried becuase I didn't really like salmon well I fixed it twice this week and I started to kinda like it. And guess what, I am mildly allergic to it!HA! I blooted up in my abdomin and my face! LOL So I guess I just am not meant to eat it! Thanks for all the recipes and support!~
What a shame that you found out you're allergic just when you began to enjoy it!
I love Salmon! Had some last night, in fact, in the restaurant. Grilled in olive oil with some seasoning and served with roasted vegetables - it was real real good!
One option - If you can't have salmon you might want to research fish oil capsules i I think you might be able to find some that contain the omega 3's but fish other than salmon. It is possible that the fish oil supplements would be less expensive and offer at least as good a health option as eating fish regularly.
You might also try wild anchovies and sardines for omegas or even research possible vegetable sources like flax seed.
Also I wanted to mention that I have read in a couple of places that wild salmon is a lot healthier than farmed salmon. It has even been suggested to avoid farmed salmon because the farmed seems to contain high levels of Arachidonic acid (AA). Farmed salmon are generally fed economical grains instead of the natural diet such as crustaceans, algae and other marine plants. The Arachidonic Acid is thought by some to more than negate the beneficial effects of the omega 3 in the farmed salmon. I think that the wild caught salmon taste better but it is hard to find outside of the Pacific Northwest, at least most of the year.
I believe that canned salmon is usually wild caught and you can make croquettes and such out of it and it is almost always more economical but the smell and taste are a lot stronger.
