Default San-Qi for ending bleeding?

My acupuncturist tried to give me san-qi (san-chee) to stop my spotting. Anyone tried this? I am afraid of side effects.

I've never tried it but I am currently a student of Chinese Medicine and I know that San Qi should really only be used if you have had prolonged menstrual (or other types) of bleeding. How long have you been bleeding for and how much are you bleeding? San Qi is a good option if you need to stop the bleeding because you feel you are at risk for losing too much blood.

I was spotting for 19 days and it freaked me out a little. She gave it to me and asked me to take two right on the spot. I told her I would take them before bed instead. I told her I was allergic to ginseng, and she swore it wasn't ginseng, and guess what? I it is lol. So I had an allergic reaction (what i was afraid of in my initial post).

Since then I had 11 days of normal progesterone and a period that lasted 2 days longer than it should. But the bleeding again was cherry and bright red. I'm not sure what's going on, but I hope this month its a normal period. So far, my temps are low again, so my progesterone is low too.

I still have the tablets just in case and some Benadryl lol

Default San Qi

You're right - San Qi is a form of ginseng! It will help to stop the incessant bleeding you are experiencing if you are willing to deal with the allergic reaction. However, there are other Chinese herbs out there that are not ginseng that can help with the bleeding. You might want to talk to your acupuncturist again about other alternatives to San Qi.

Take care!

Ahhh I didn't even know there was an alternative. Thanks so much for posting this! She told me its the only and best thing for it, but insisted it wasn't ginseng. I probably just need a need acunpucturist. This woman also made me sit up for the needles, and another acup told me that's never done unless the patient is in a wheelchair or unable to lay flat. The headrushes I got when she was barely done was out of this world! (I think I saw unicorns lol, kidding).

Thanks again!!

After only one month of eating WHOLE buckwheat flour muffins my long bleeds reduced to 3 days. It stays that way if I eat the muffins. It's the strong amount of D-chiro-inositol that apparently helps pcos.
lots of threads on it and recipes too. just search it.
It's cheap from the health food store. HOpe that helps!
Keep us informed as to your results please!
p.s. 2 muffins a day did the trick.

That's so interesting! I never guessed buckwheat would help like that. I am so going to try it today! My next cycle is due on the 15th. So far, my daytime temps are normal (not elevated, so not much Progesterone again which sucks).

What I have been trying (and didn't this month because apparently I am a glutton for punishment) is seaweed. The higher levels of iodine in seaweed helped balance my hormones last month, so I only had a 7 day period (2 real days, then scant spotting). You should try the seaweed too because iodine is deficient in the American diet and it can cause all sorts of ailments and disorders.

Thanks for the tip and I hope I have offered a tip in return that will help knock this out for you too!

peace,

anne

You know, that is an excellent suggestion about seaweed. Thank you! In the past I meant to try it,but forgot with all the other things I started implementing for pcos. I did not realize seaweed might help balance the hormones. That certainly makes it worth a try!

Interestingly the only thing I knew about the buckwheat was that it was supposed to reduce androgens, when it reduced my monthly cycle to normal within a month I was blown away!
It could not have been a coincidence because I had long bleeds for the past year straight. I even had an ablation procedure done to stop it but the surgery failed!!! Ha! my body is very determined!

I jokingly call the buckwheat muffins my "medicine muffins."

Buckwheat cereal is ok do you think? I am allergic (and vegan) to eggs and dairy.

By the way, the allergist discovered I had minor Candida Albicans, so I can't eat any yeast, sugar, etc. I've lost 21 lbs in almost 6 weeks!!!! From Oct. 30th until today! And I still eat sourdough and rustic bread (they have natural risers, without yeast). If I had known yeast made me so fat I would have dumped it a long time ago haha.

Yes, def try the seaweed. It really does balance things out - and very quickly too!

[color="DarkOrange"]I don't know much about the cereal. The idea is to try to get 1200 mg of d-chiro-inositol from the buckwheat.
Uh, I suppose you just could find a method of getting it that works for you.

There is a company tha makes d-chiro-inositol pills, but it is painfully expensive!! My muffins are my cheap and natural way of getting it.

Hopefully this link will get you to their site.

Oops, that link is to a site discussing d-c-inositol, not really selling it though.

Here is a link where pcos-ers are discussing a tortilla made of buckwheat.
i.e. no egg, or milk needed in the recipe. D-Chiro-Inositol EMAIL UPDATE

I'll try to find the link to the pills if you like.

I have a question please. Before your allergy test have you had the typical hard time losing weight like other pcos ladies?

I was planning on getting tested this January. I don't know if it is an AlCAT type test or what, I am investigating now. What allergy test did you take? I can hardly believe your awesome weight loss!!!!! I have NEVER lost weight that fast( in fact I have can hardly move the scale)!! I have secretly wondered if something was preventing me besides pcos.

Lately I have been trying to balance my blood sugars via the endo Dr. book by Diana Schwarzbein. Noticed my digestestion is better and this may be TMI but my bowels are much improved too. uh...formed and not loose. (Sorry.)

Thanks in advance for your input!

Thanks for the links!!

As for the weightloss, lordy what can I tell you. I had pregnancy weight that wouldn't budge, then I got pregnant in April of this year - got fatter. I am a vegan and was shocked that i was still fat. One lady laughed in my face when I said I was vegan, she said "you are NOT vegan! YOU are FAT!". I was only 160 (i am 5' 6").

I got the allergy test done for several foods. The doctor decided to check for Candida Albicans on her own. So when my results came back and it showed a level 3 i was like "what is candida albicans!".

Apparently, it's the naturally occuring yeast in our gut that suddenly takes over when we eat a lot of sugar and carbs. It can be "lethal". It can attack organs and simply take over.

What you need to do is see an allergist (everyone who is reading this - please get an IgE and IgG allergy test on the foods you normally eat and for Candida Albicans).

It took so little time for me to suddenly pee all of my weight off. I was just holding onto large amounts of water!

If your test results show a delayed response (IgG) and you have been eating this food - then you will know why you aren't losing weight. Offensive foods cause inflammation and retain all this water.

Also, cut down on any food with yeast, sugar, tobacco (yes, it makes you retain water), and your usual suspects like corn syrup, etc. If you end up having too much Candida Albicans, you will be asked to go on a yeast-free, sugar-free, ferment-free diet. And I am not shy to say this - it sucks. It sucks really bad But it's only 3 months, and you can knock out the yeast and go back to eating - and you lose a lot of weight!
