Default Sarafem(prozac) for Peri Menopause

I am taking this for my sweats and frequent irritablility. Its not really doing that much but it can take 4 weeks and up to get full benefits. Im just now coming up on 4 weeks. I have noticed that my weight is dropping slightly. This is one of the side effects. Boy what a bonus that is . Makes me want to just stay on it even if it doesn't help moods that much, just for the weight loss. I also read it can lower your blood sugar. Well doesn't that make one crabby??? Seems like a contradiction but Im going to keep with it for a while. Yesterday I was real crabby but I also considered that the weight loss may be releasing androgens into my system. Today I feel just great so its hard to say. One more month and then I will decide. As far as hot flashes,,,,I still get them but they no longer make me sweat, i just feel hot inside. I guess thats improvement but i wish that would just go away. Ive been hot all my life and would like a break.

Good point... My dr originally told me to take it two weeks per month when I had my symptoms. She said you may not notice any effect for the first two months this way. She told me if i felt like it was helping i could just take one every day. I opted to do this because anymore, i have pms 3 weeks a month. I also felt like I needed to take it consistently to get any effect. To be honest I wonder if people freak out once they realize its the same drug as prozac. I did at first but i decided that i needed to get over that or im gonna have many future bad years if my peri-menopause takes a long time. Once i got over it i was fine with it , i kinda make a joke about it because dh & i are "Sopranos" fans and tony takes prozac...

lol from what i read about prozac...and since serafem is the same thing you need to have a steady stream of it in your system to really get the effects so..is taking serafem cheaper than prozac??

my old psych said since its the same thing... she thinks its more a marketing thing for people who dont want the stigma of prozac..but it makes me mad bc if you are having problems telling a woman just take it for a week wont help anything ..usually..grrrr lol

i hope it helps you bc pms and peri makes you feel sooo horrible xoxo jenn
