Saw Dr. Lump found Mammogram scheduled, breast reduction
Ok, I know this isn't Pcos related but I was having some pain in my breast and I called Dr. She had me come in today and when she did the breast exam she noticed "lumpy tissue" so she scheduled me for a mammogram. She also suggested me getting a breast reduction because my breasts are really large and are difficult to examine. HEY, I hear ya there!! I didn't even have to mention the breast reduction though which I was glad about. I already have an appointment scheduled with the plastic surgeon for my consult. I am definately nervous about the lumpy tissue, but I am trying to just not think about it. I called my mom and she told me both she and my grandmother have fibercystic breasts (great! more cysts......) so that is a large possibility. Anyway, I go to the Plastic surgeon on the 2nd and I go for the mammogram on the 8th. I have already considered the breast reduction surgery, I posted here about it last week under "whats on your mind" just wasn't prepared for the other mess. I am sure everything is ok just please keep me in ya'lls thoughts, because I ain't going to lie, I am nervous about the mammogram. Never had one before, being only 24.

I am also sending my good wishes and good luck to you. Also, I want to share something that happened to me. I had my breast reduction when I was 30. When I went for my first follow up visit to the plastic surgeon, he told me he had just gotten off the phone with the lab and that they had found cancer cells (carcinoma in situ, which means microscopic cancer that if left untreated would turn to invasive cancer in 20% of women within 20 years) in a routine biopsy they performed on tissue that they removed. He referred to me to a breast cancer specialist. That doctor told me that in his opinion, so much breast tissue had been removed that his suggestion for follow up treatment was to just be followed carefully, and to have routine mammograms, starting after the scar tissue had healed (3 months). Another specialist I saw recommended 6 weeks of radiation. A third opinion agreed with the first. I decided to stick with the first doctor, and 3 months later had my first mammogram. After the mammogram, I was told that I had a huge mass in the upper left quadrant of my left breast, and on a scale of 1-10 this was a 9, and most certainly cancer. I spent a week going for further tests (bone scans, etc), then had to find out if I was a good candidate for lumpectomy (I was), then was scheduled for a biopsy. Since they were so certain this was cancer, we had planned for the lumpectomy to take place at the same time as the biopsy if the lump they removed was malignant. I was also told to expect to have radiation implants, and that I would be "radioactive" for a couple of days after, be in an isolated room, etc. Needless to say, I (and my mom) were scared to death! Well, it turned out that the "malignant lump" was actually just scar tissue from the breast reduction.
If my plastic surgeon would have ordered a mammogram prior to my breast reduction, I would have been spared all of the unnecessary stress, because a "lump" the size I had 3 months after the reduction would be much less suspicious of cancer, since tumors don't grow that quickly. When I went back to the surgeon who performed the biopsy, I asked him why the plastic surgeon hadn't ordered a mammogram prior to my breast reduction. His response was "he will from now on" (meaning on other women). This was 17 years ago, and I get a yearly mammogram and have had no further problems. In fact, I feel that the breast reduction probably saved my life!
I'm telling you all of this because I think it's a good idea for you to have a mammogram anyway before the breast reduction, and I think it should be routine for any woman undergoing this surgery, no matter what their age.

I had my first mammy at age 34.
Everything was fine, no cancer.
But I did take one of my jokes with me to share with the gals(great ice breaker)
They then showed me the "secret" cabnet.
It contains all the jokes that people bring in.
It was a hoot!!
But if you are still nervous when you get in there, PLEASE let them know!! Make sure they understand you have never done this before.
It was more akward than anything. I haven't been put in some of those postions in a long time.
