Question Saw Palmetto: how long b4 results, side effects, drug interactions?

i just started taking a saw palmetto tincture and was wondering about a few things before i get too deep into it.

Does anyone know of any drug interactions? im also taking hawthorne berry, vitex, and milk thistle.

i read that SP has an anti estrogen effect. i also read that PCOSers have estrogen dominance so the SP would be ok for that but will the use of the vitex maintain the balance of estrogen production and usage by the body?

has anyone experienced any side effects?

how soon after starting did you all notice results? what exactly did you notice? did the problem return after you stopped using? was it worse?

thank you ladies in advance for your help...your all beautiful

I don't think you'll be able to get a clear answer because results vary in terms of length of time before seeing results and in terms of effectiveness. Some women with PCOS have very good results with Saw Palmetto especially concerning excess hair and acne while some others didn't recieve any benefits and had a few side-effects like stomach ache and nausea. You'll have to find out by yourself if Saw Palmetto is for you. Dr. Andrew Weil who is a very respected medical doctor as well as a certified herbologist, noticed that it usually takes about 2 months of consistent use before a herb starts to be effective ( although there are exceptions like vitex). So, if after 2 months of Saw Palmetto, you see absolutely no benefits whatsoever, then maybe it's not for you. If you do see benefits but not 100%, you might want to add other supplements that act synergistically with SP to block DHT ( dihydrotestosterone). Other very helpful anti-DHT supplements are GLA ( gamma linolenic acid), ALA ( alpha linolenic acid found in flax), zinc/B6 combo and african pygeum.

I also just started taking saw palmetto a few weeks ago, and I realized yesterday that the directions on the bottle were meant for men dealing with prostate problems.

Is one pill three times a day good for me too? Is it important that the pills be taken at the same time every day, like with so many other hormone-type drugs?

The recommended dosage for men or women is 160 mg twice a day for a total of 320 mg a day. I do think it's important to take supplements at the same time of the day to establish a regular pattern so that you always remember to take them.
