Angry Saw Palmetto making hair grow??

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I read about Saw Palmetto helping w/excess hair, so w/o doing further research I ordered two tinctures. To my horror I am now covered in hair! It is growing on my face (like forehead WTF?), all over my torso, back!!, everywhere! That was such a mistake. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it reversible? I can't believe I did this to myself

Weird. I have noticed a slowdown on the growth of my unwanted hair...and even a decrease in how much hair I'm shedding. That is really odd. I hope someone can give you some advice on that. Sorry to hear that.

I was taking it in tincture form, which is liquid. A dropper full twice a day, so I'd say about 25 drops give or take a day. On the bottle it said to take anywhere from 6-12 drops three times a day. Do you think I was taking too much?

6drops 3 times would be 18drops and 12 drops would be 36 drops.
its within the safe range but i would advise to take it easy whenever u start with herbal therapies.
u dont know for sure how they suit your system?

is it looking hideous....i mean ..very prominant that its alarming you.

has the hair on your head grown.....bcos its supposed to be effective in people having androgenetic type of hair loss.

it actually reverses the effects of excess facial hair in women with pcod.
what else have u been taking.

Yes, hideous is a word I would use to describe it! There is hair growing where I didn't think I had hair, like on the backs of my hands, knuckles, chest and stomach, all over my back, and now I have facial hair. It is growing on my neck and jawline. Basically all of the hair that was invisible before is now longer and darker and visible. I'm hoping once it gets out of my system, the hair will return to normal. I don't know if that's possible though?

I was also taking Chasteberry along with the Saw Palmetto, but I don't think that had anything to do with the hair growth...?? I have stopped taking both for what it's worth.

I don't know how to translate that... I deal with saw palmetto in miligrams, so I have no idea if this is excessive or not.

Personally, if I were you, I'd cease the saw palmetto altogether and then see what happens with your hair growth. I've seen other cysters post that they had hirsutism with saw palmetto (but I think they were taking too much).

I don't think amino acids would hurt, but unless you have an amino acid deficiency, I don't think it would help, either. Hair loss (in the context of PCOS) occurs because of hormone imbalance, so the best thing to do is to keep your blood sugars down, which keeps your insulin levels down, which keeps your testosterone levels down, which keeps your DHT down. It all starts with blood sugar.

Are you taking cinnamon?

Saw Palmetto appears to be helping me to keep my hair, but I haven't noticed any regrowth. I think by the time I addressed my hair loss issue, the follicles had been dead for years, and are thus less likely to spring back to life. If your hair loss occured recently, you might have some regrowth, though.

hey mallory...i had posted in cinnamon thread but no one replied.....i am finding it difficult to get cinnamon supplements here in the middle east when it shud be the easiet...but we do use a lot of cinnamon is our food....can i use it any other way and how much.i have a lot of cinnamon at home.

my random sugar was fine a few weeks back,.....i have nver had a sugar problem as such but wud definitely take cinnamon as a precaution.is this blood sugar test any different.

my hair has always been thick and curly but ever since the last pregnancy it has become wavy and soft.....now i have cut it a bit and it looks better...but teh last 2 months or more i noticed my front scalp has become very scant...i notice it a lot...moreover my mom too has the same. it wasnt so bad a few months ago....i am sure its a recent development.

i have started on ayurvedic hair topical treatment and am taking prenatals.vit b complex.epo with vit e and vitex. i decided to take amino acid bcos i read the lack of lysine and argining can also contribute to hair loss.

can u find out if there are any sideeffects by taking multi amino acids.

Blood sugar levels change constantly, so it may be fine one moment and really high a few hours later.

Yes, you can sprinkle cinnamon on your food, you don't have to have supplements.

Hi Han19!

Nope, it's still growing, but I *think* it's slowed down. So that is a good sign.

I've actually read in a couple of places that it helps some women with hirsiutism, and others it makes it worse. I'll have to look for the links and get back to you. I wish I researched it more and wasn't so gung ho w/taking it.
