apologies for cross-posting - tried this on the hair board but got no responses, so thought i would see if anyone here can help...
Just wondering if this is possible...I've been taking saw palmetto for excess hair for about a month, and it doesn't seem to be having the desired effect. In fact I think I am hairier. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I don't know whether I should persevere with SP in the hope it will eventually work, or whether that might just make me even hairier than I am now. I would be really grateful for advice - am feeling a bit depressed - had sort of hoped this might be the miracle cure (I should know by now they don't exist, but you've got to hope, right?) thanks xx
PS sorry if this has been posted about recently - I was sure I saw something a little while ago but couldn't find it when I searched.
I have tried SP numerous times over the past couple of years. I had terrible acne and my hair growth increased both times. I stuck with it for about three months -- no improvement. I know it has worked for some people, but like all things, it doesn't work for everybody....

I have been taking it for some months now. It didn't really do anything at first. But I stuck with it. After taking it for a while I have noticed a difference. I don't know if it makes any difference but there are different strengths. I am taking sp complex because it contains other things that help the sp to work better. Maybe it was too strong for you. Or as above, it might just not suit you.
If you want to chat anytime you can pm me or email me anytime.
hi, thank you both for your advice. I am taking a sp complex too - maybe you're right and it's too strong for me - I am not THAT hairy (although much more than average girls). although now you come to mention it I have been quite spotty over the last month - maybe it just doesn't work for me. unlucky for me! back to the drawing board, I suppose.
If you're not having any success with saw palmetto, you might want to try green tea extract instead. It's a powerful DHT inhibitor like saw palmetto but has other advantages for pcos sufferers that saw palmetto does not have: green tea helps prevent and possibly treat insulin problems, it helps reduce appetite, it seems to balance androgen levels, its contains powerful polyphenols that help prevent many types of cancers, it increases your metabolism thus helping you to lose weight more effectively, it improves the beauty of the skin and it increases good cholesterol levels while lowering bad cholesterol.
I know that the company Pharmanex sells a product called Tegreen 97 which has 97% polyphenols which is very high and I also saw a great green tea extract on Vitacost at 98% polyphenols. These are the highest amounts on the market. Give it a try to see if it helps you out.
