Default Saw Pametto for lowering Testerone??!

Someone mentioned to me the other day that her husband takes this for his enlarged prostate and to keep his testerone levels down. Anyone here had any success with it to keep our testerone levels down??

My naturopath prescribed it to me. I've only been on it for a few months, so I don't for sure know yet how it's working. I take it with a couple other natural meds and so far am having my period naturally and very regularly. Also, I haven't had any excess hair growth like I had the last time I went off bcps. I hope I can attribute that to the saw palmetto!

Try googling "saw palmetto" and "DHT".

How many milligrams of saw palmetto do you need to take for it to work?

Nature's Way is pretty ok...follow the dosage on the bottle and talk to your Dr.
I drink mine in a tea so I just seep a scoop full in hot water once or twice a day.

I read somewhere that saw palmetto should not be taken by women. I'm afraid to take it, but it sounds like it's helpful to a lot of women, so why shouldn't they take it, and did anyone else ever read or hear that?

Its really the man's herb like Dong Quai is the women's. Men use it for prostate health cause it controls testosterone. Which is what we use it for...I've been taking it for a long time and it has only helped me.

Men take Saw Palmetto to lower testosterone as high levels of testosterone contribute to prostate issues.

I took saw palmetto a few year back for a whole year, but I never really saw any great improvements with my hair loss.

I do believe it works, though.

My husband took it a while back because his hair was starting to thin and I explained to him about testosterone and DHT and that saw palmetto can help lower it.

After two weeks, he stopped taking it because it took his *very* high sex drive down to nothin'. I beleive that was proof that it helps lower testosterone.

After being off it for a week or two, everything went back to normal.

It might not be the best idea for a healthy woman with normal hormonal levels to take it- truly low testosterone can after all mess with your sex drive- but we are not talking about women with healthy hormonal profiles! I used to take it and it helped, but just cut everything but vitamins out once I conceived.

I'm also thinking about giving it a try. I can't take Spiro it makes my breast hurt so bad so hopefully this won't be as bad. I'll ask my Dr about it when I see her Monday. She knows alot about herbs.

Hello, I started saw palmetto and lately my skin seems less oily which is great! My face usually looks like a greasy mess on a daily basis. Things seem to be better now. I take 490mg a day. Good luck!

I SO want to try taking this. I see my naturopath on March 1st and I haven't been taking anything at all since I've known that I was going to start seeing one. I really want to give her a blank slate to work with and a clear picture of what my levels are when I'm not messing around with stuff. I really hope she decides to put me on it though...I really think it would do great things for me.
