My Mood: Points: 21,426.64 Bank: 0.03 Total Points: 21,426.67 | Scan for Cervix Length Hello. I was wondering if anyone else received a scan for their cervix length? This is my 2nd pregnancy and my first with DS#1 was a preemie, so I'm wondering if that could be why? I asked several of my friends and only one, how was on her 3rd pregnancy could remember having it done.
Thanks for any info.

Points: 62,639.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 62,639.89 | With my first PG I had scans to check my cervical length every 2 weeks from 14 weeks to 36 weeks. The reason for mine was that I had a LEEP done about 5 years ago (a small piece of my cervix was removed after an abnormal pap) and this procedure puts you at slightly higher risk for incompetent cervix. I am PG with #2 and will have to have the checks again this time. I know other things that can put you at higher risk are a previous D&C or abortion. Anything where your cervix is forced open.
Maybe because you had a preemie last time they want to make sure your cervix isn't going to open prematurely this time?
I didn't mind them at all. The only bummer is that they have to do the u/s vaginally to check cervical length, but I got to see my baby a ton!!

It's something that scared the jeebus out of me and I figure that if scans can prevent a tragedy, I'm all in favor of them.
And, the PP is right, they are probably doing the scans because of your previous history.

My Mood: Points: 21,426.64 Bank: 0.03 Total Points: 21,426.67 | I had a preemie at 32w1d, due to to much fluid. My water broke, at 31w5d. I don't know if that helps??
This pregnancy is natural, but since I had a preemie they scanned my cervix again...the length is 2.5 which is on the low side of good. I go back in 2 weeks for another scan. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays the same!!
