My Mood: Points: 11,778.80 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 11,778.80 | Scared of miscarriage-dropping prog level Ladies, I need advice and HONEST opinions. I am about 6 wks pg with #3. This happend completely natural, no meds. I haven't had a cycle since March. But did have an u/s in June to check my uterine lining, etc. Anyway when I got positive pg, my hcg was 25 and prog was only 6. Re-tested 3 days later, hcg was 80. A week later re-tested prog and it was 12. Now 3rd test of prog a week later, it has dropped to 10! The nurse at RE's office says no need to worry. How can she honestly say that?!?!?! It is dropping for heavens sake. She said larger women can have levels like this. I have never heard that. With previous pregnancies never had this happen. The nurse said to just keep doing the vaginal supposotories. I have an u/s on Tuesday. I am so scared. My dh says to trust RE and nurse. But I just don't have a good feeling. I have had no cramping or bleeding. Can you still be miscarrying without those? How will I know if I am? Thank you. |

You should be on prometrium or crinone, or at least NPC for now. I was on crinone for the first trimester, because my first p4 level was 11.

Good luck!

I'm currently going through my second loss, and its the dropping hcg levels that indicate a miscarriage has occurred, or is about to occur. My hcg levels were 70, then 54, then 38. My progesterone was 82, 82 then 60-something. The nurse said I would not actually miscarry until the hcg levels got below 5. Your hcg has been doubling, so that is a good sign. It sounds to me like you might need some progesterone supplements - I presume you are supplementing, you did mention suppositories.
To answer your questions, it is possible to miscarry without bleeding or cramping. This is known as a "missed miscarriage". But as your hcg levels are good I don't think this is what is happening. I knew I was miscarrying the first time because I had lots of bleeding and cramping (hard to miss that!) and this time initially because of the falling hcg levels which have now been followed up by bleeding.
Please try not to worry too much, hopefully everything will be fine. Keep up the progesterone supplements - or insist on talking to your doctor about them if you are not taking any. I wouldn't worry about miscarriage unless you had a drop in hcg or some bleeding (not just spotting, lots of people have that and are fine - some people even have bleeding and go on to have healthy babes).
Good luck to you.

I am so sorry for your losses. Thank you for sharing with me. I have an u/s scheduled for Tuesday. I tried to get them to re-test HCG, but wouldn't. So I just have to wait until Tuesday. I am so nervous. My sides are hurting tonight. I don't know if it is anything or I am just working myself up. I will follow up on Tues. hugs to you |

This could be why your RE's office isn't concerned. Call and ask them.
Another thought - with both pregnancies, my P4 level was below 8 at 7 weeks. My HCG was through the roof, and my OB thinks that's what saved the pregnancies until I got supplements. |

My Mood: Points: 3,761.48 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,761.48 | Tried to post this on other thread, but wouldn't go, so I will try this one- I'm so sorry. Is it possible that you could have an ectopic at the same time? I had that happen 3 yrs ago, empty sac on u/s so I stopped projesterone support. But when I went back for a hcg level after I started bleeding to m/c, the level was still going up, so they suspected the ectopic and gave me methatrexate (sp?) to take care of it. That level is pretty high to not see anything in the sac, as I know mine was a lot lower. Thinking of you, jennifer
