You do need a proper diagnosis and the sooner you get it, the better.

You do need to make clear to your specialist that having kids, if possible, is very important to you.

You do need to avoid putting off trying to have kids -- no use avoiding trying till you're in your 30s.

Most women with PCOS are able to have children -- it can just be a bit more tricky for some. The chances are that you'll be able to have kids -- just make sure you get going with things as soon as possible. If you need help medically to that end, as you may well, then the sooner you get it, the better your chances will be.

I'm so glad that you found this website and I hope that you continue to utilize it to find answers and comfort. You will meet some wonderful gals on here that can assist you.

What kind of specialist did you visit?

I would recommend taking your health into your own hands. And sometimes that means having to wade through a crowd of doctors that may not have the knowledge, patience and empathy that we all need. There is a doctor out there that will be the right fit so keep looking. (FYI - There is an area on this board that helps members locate a PCOS friendly doctor in your locale.) Any doctor that dismisses your concerns and wants to simply "help" you by prescribing birth control and/or telling you to "just lose weight" is clearly not going to be able to assist you. PCOS is more than just putting someone on birth control pills or telling them to lose weight so any doctor who adheres to such sophomoric notions should not be seen anymore.

Continue to research online, come back to this site to post your questions, and make a list of questions that you would like your "specialist" to plainly, seriously address. If you feel that she cannot offer you the relief that you need, then move on. Hang in there and know that you are not alone!

Best of luck!

Hello.
I am Katie. A real woman. A real story. I was you. And I think we all were. But I will make this short and simple.

Changing body chemistry takes diligent work.
Have courage, friend. Work, and be willing to work hard. Be willing to work harder than you must. Then, when times are tough, and they might get tough, you know you can go further.

I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. I weighed 240 pounds, and I had no period. (I will spare you the rest of the details). I worked with diet and activity for 8 months with VERY FEW results, and then the magic happened. See, the body takes about that long to shift stuff about, and re-set. Little by little, things will happen. But you CANT STOP, just because the results are not immediate. Overcoming PCOS will happen from the inside out. Not the other way around.

Rules to live by: If its not food, don't eat it. If God didn't make it, don't eat it. Trust what He put on this Earth as what you need to eat. He made carrots, not ice cream, for example. :-)

And love Him for this chance to be healthier than all of your friends. Cysters must be more active and more healthful than our non-PCOS friends.
We are a sensitive bunch:-)

I never took the drugs. I cant comment on them. Resetting my chemistry was my goal, and I think I don't need the drugs for that. Only you will know what works for you.

I can tell you now, that I have lost 80 pounds, slowly but surely. I run marathons, swim for miles and yes, I have a period. And yes, someday I will have children.
You will too. I believe in you. I believe in all of us.

Things have changed for you, so you must change how you lead your life. Let it be a blessing. You have an opportunity to shine. The rest of your life starts today. The fear and panic will subside. (I cried for about 20 hours straight.) And what is left is what matters; you.

Herbs; www.mountainroseherbs.com; saw pawmetto (spelling) blend for mens prostate health. (lowers testosterone)
Cinnamon. Lots of it. Capsules. Powder. Tea. Love it up, eat it up.
Low GI diet.
Progesterone cream to jumpstart your cycle. One pea sized amount just below the belly button, once a day for three weeks a month. 6 months. Do it. It rocked for me.

And a good attitude. (available for free, at participating locations only)

And walk. Run. Shake it. Love your body. It really wants to love you, too. And it will show you how it appreciates the care, in a few months time.

Go easy on yourself, friend. You have a beautiful life ahead of you.

hugs from Korea,
Katie

KATIE - I just wanted to say that I thought what you wrote was so incredibly kind, thoughtful and gracious...
