I am beginning to have more and more hair loss on my head especially in the shower and my mom suggested I try Biotin supplement but I have such a horrible problem with thick, dark hair GROWTH on my legs, butt and tummy that I'm scared that the Biotin might make the body hair grow more too! Anybody know anything about this?? Maybe the two types of hair ( head/body) are not produced the same way or effected the same?? Because I havent seen any remarks from others using Biotin for hair loss about having this prob but I really cant deal with anymore body hair!

My daughter was recently--just this past month--diagnosed with PCOS and has been using Biotin since January. Her regular doctor had suggested she take it along with saw palmetto and pantheonic acid (which I understand is a kind of B vitamin for stress). She is taking 5000 mg per day of the biotin, 320 mg of saw palmetto extract and I THINK 500 mg (unsure about this quantity) per day of the Pantheonic acid. I do believe the saw palmetto helped greatly and the Biotin has certainly not caused her any harm. Maybe you could ask your doctor about this and also about doing some blood tests. She too is concerned about hair problems.
When I was on 5000 mcg of Biotin I noticed that my body hair grew in faster (which is why I stopped taking it) but there wasn't any additional growth or changes in thickness. It did improve my hair loss though. It just wasn't a good enough tradeoff for me personally.
People will always have different reactions to different supplements, so I say it's worth trying to see how it works for you.
thanks, thats what i was afraid of...i think i'll try the palmetto and pantheonic acid. I have seen others are trying it as well. I just cant handle more body hair than I'm dealing with now!...appreciate the feedback...jb

I've been taking a super high dose of biotin: 20mg per day with a normal dose of zinc.
My naturopath had mentioned talking to a doctor who used this combo to successfully lower the levels of testosterone in autistic kids who were suffering from abnormally high levels.
Now I'm doing other things that could be contributing to my testosterone and dht lowering. (saw palmetto, fortamet, flutamide etc) but it definitely hasn't hurt and my levels have continued to come down while on this.
I do see that my nails are growing crazy fast now so hopefully my hair will follow soon?
Anyway just my two cents. I think you've got a good plan and should see what the new supps you add do if anything, one by one so that you can see the changes as they come.
I tend to go gangbusters and do a bunch at once, resulting in a really long regime that I really need to par down but don't know where to!

Well like I said it didn't give me more body hair..just made the existing hair grow faster if that makes sense. I would recommend trying a vitamin B combo supplement as well. That's helped out a good deal with my hair loss (and my nails are insane haha).
