I have my first acupuncture/TCM appointment next Friday. I wish it were today! I read the book The Infertility Cure this past week and was blown away by the wealth of knowledge this woman possessed & the science behind her methods. After reading it, I discovered the author practices in Houston - just outside of where I live!!! So, I've got my appointment set. She does acupuncture along with diet plans & herbal formulas designed specifically for the patient. She only works with women trying to conceive and claims to have a 75% success rate - far greater than any infertility medications!! She says of the 25% that are not successful, it is primarily because the patient is unable to committ to the regime set up. Also, PCOS is the second leading cause of patients that come to see her, so she is very experienced with PCOSers.

I'm really nervous about this. If you would have told me a year ago I would even consider visiting a TCM practicioner, I would have said you were crazy! I'm scared it will hurt; I'm scared to get excited & it not work; I'm scared I won't like it...

I hate unknowns!! Anyone with some support/experiences/stories would be appreciated!!!

Don't worry - it sounds wonderful! (that's an amazing success rate, I'm going to have to have a look for her book).

I've heard that acupuncture is virtually painless and that while the herbs can be a bit stinky it doesn't take long to get used to them.

I have no personal experience with acupuncture to share, but want to wish you the best of luck...and ask that you keep us posted. I'm very curious about acupuncture in general, and may explore that as a treatment option myself. Actually, my insurance has better coverage for acupuncture than for infertility treatment! Isn't that weird? You are very lucky to have such a knowledgeable practitioner right in your own back yard!

I do have a work colleague who had acupuncture prior to giving birth, and said she believes it contributed to a speedy and problem-free delivery. Maybe you'll be able to report a similar experience after TTC success!
