I normally don't post on this Board, but everyone here seems to friendly and welcoming, I thought I'd jump in!
Do we have any Scientologists among us on this website?? With all of the recent talk about Scientology in the news, etc., I am intruiged and would like some more info about it just out of my own general interest. Is Scientology actually a religion, or better desrcirbed as a way of life rather than a religion? What are the core beliefs of Scientology? If you are reading this, and you are a Scientologist, how has it changed or improved your life?
I'd love to hear any info that anyone has on this.
*just a quick note: Scientology can be a 'hot button' topic. Please, everyone, refrain from popular press 'slurs', and try keep the conversation on point with the OP. For the purpose of this thread, please show Scientology the respect you would want someone of a different religion to display towards your religion Thanks!*

Thanks Kat - I absolutely agree 100% - I did not start this thread to start a debate on Scientology - I am just an interested person.
I don't know much about it, other than what is said on the news, etc. One of the things that intrigues me is that people (that I have seen on tv, etc.) who are Scientologists seem to be incredibly happy and content, and I wonder what it is about Scientology that instills this in them. And, this is a huge generalization, I know, but, they also seem to lead amazingly successful lives - this is really interesting to me and I want to educate myself to have a better understanding.
Location: Kansas City, KS formerly from Overland Park but had to change it here since someone asked me to, will not mention any names because Chula might get mad.....lol
I'm not a scientologist but I've been in the Church before and have taken some courses there.
I don't really know what its all about but I must say that the courses they have are great.
I think that the media makes it more outrageous than it actually is. I believe its like every other religion, it has its good things and its bad things. Its all a matter of opinion.

Some of my family members are Scientologists. I can answer some questions, but keep in mind that I'm not actually a Scientologist.

Scientology is a religion. Scientologists go to church. Is it a way of life? Not in the sense of other religions that prescribe eating or dress habits or limit use of modern medicine except for psychiatry/hypnosis which are BIG NO-NOs! Drugs are bad, vitamins and minerals are good.
What are the core beliefs of Scientology?
It's complicated to explain without my taking ages to do it. This Wikipedia Article may help since Wikipedia is largely the facts without bias.
The key is that you want to become clear of emotional charges from the reactive mind. Emotional charges are, essentially, negative associations from the past including past lives. You go through auditing to remove these charges.

I'm *not* a Scientologist, but the Scientologists I know are pleased with their religion just as most people are pleased with their religion. So pleased, they keep hounding me to join the Church, take classes and get auditing.
One thing that concerns me is that when my uncle ran out of money for auditing, he was blown off and denied access until he could get more money for auditing. This was at a very stressful point in his life and he had a bit of a breakdown, but when he had enough money to participate again he was welcomed back. Classes and auditing cost a lot of money.
