Unhappy Seasonal Hairloss

Hi guys,
I know this sounds crazy, but have any of you experienced seasonal hairloss. It seems that each year during the months of Nov-Feb, I lose tons of hair. Fortunately, the hair starts to grow back around March-April. I went to a dermatologist who suggested that I was suffering from alopecia. If it were alopecia, would the hair grow back as it does.
I hope that someone has some sort of suggestions as this is driving me CRAZY!!!

Thanks

Hi, CHANNON,

I think you are on to something here. I seem to be losing more this time of year and that happened last year, too. I also seem to get another round of hair loss about mid summer (which wipes out the new growth I got in Spring...RATS!) Unfortuneately, it doesn't seem to be growing back as fast in the Spring as in previous years. My dermatologist diagnosed mine as "androgenetic alopecia".

I also notice that my hair falls out a LOT more just before and kind of during when AF comes...just another lovely sympton adding to the ugly feelings that I get from the mood swings and bloating that I experience at that time.

I wish I knew what would help stop the hairloss. I have tried taking Brewer's Yeast and also hair vitamins from GNC with no success. My doc says that only Rogaine will help...MAYBE...there is no guarantee there, either. I don't want to go that route. The stuff is expensive and you have to put it on twice a day and if you stop, you lose all that you gained! Bleah!

HAIR LOSS SUCKS!

KKat
By the way, I noticed that was your first post so...
WELCOME TO SOULCYSTERS!!!

I think you're on to something. I have very very thick hair, but lately I don't know if it's just my imagination or what, but I seem to be able to literally run my hands through my hair and come out with at least a few strands. When I wash my hair I end up with about 20 strands. I mentioned this to dh who said "you do this every winter."

I haven't noticed my hair actually thinning, but it's got me paranoid. I mentioned it to my doctor who said it was probably hormonal, since it started up when I started spotting about 6 weeks ago. I start provera to stop the spotting soon - I could start now but decided to wait until after xmas so I don't go crazy during the holidays LOL. Anyway, I definitely "shed" in the middle of the summer, too. Definitely cyclical for me.
