Question Secrets to using Toppik?

Hi, I'm new here (as you can tell I'm sure). The doctors aren't yet sure WHY I lost some hair, but I did (when I went off BCPs actually).
So, I've been dealing with it for a year now and I finally got sick of it enough to go see a hair restoration doctor. He recommended the Toppik, since I can't afford a transplant yet.

Got it today, just a bit ago. Read everything, had read the whole website.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The toppik seems to go RIGHT to my scalp. Do not pass go, do not cling to hair, go to scalp. Now granted I have a little product in my hair (Aveda's Pure Abundance Hair Potion) so I'll try again tonight after I wash and dry it. But it's just not sticking to my hair

I expected one thing and I'm seeing another in the mirror. This was what I was kinda hangin all my hopes on =/

I did not get that sprayer top because I only ordered the travel sizes so I could figure out which color (and holy cow are they tiny bottles, way smaller than I thought from watching the videos on the site!!).

{forgive the odd picture and please ignore the horns.....they're not real, hehe. this is a pic from last halloween and the first that popped up that shows the worst part of my hair to the best degree}

Well I have used Toppik for years now. This is my experience, if I may share it may answer your questions. My most obvious thinning is right in the front at hairline. Perhaps a 3" square area. The hair is quite sparse there. The best way I have found to use Toppik is to part my hair in small sections as I go and make a small sprinkle then move to another area, say 1/2" away and repeat the process.It only takes a few shakes for the whole process. I don't usually aim for the place on my head where the natural part is, because that area should look like scalp. Once finished I gently pat my head a few times where I sprinkled to settle the product to my scalp, then usually wear my hear pulled into a loose bun with a pretty clip (or chignon if you want to get fancy). If you get real close and stare it down, then yes you can see something is up, but 99% of the time no one notices.
What I am trying to achieve is camoflauge. The fibers attached to your hairs that they say in the sales pitch, honestly looks like I have something like dirt in my hair, not more hair. So I only try to get it on my scalp. A little goes a long way, and I use no other items or hairsprays in the toppik process.
So I try to get it THINLY sprinkled onto my scalp, cover my scalp with hair styled close to scalp, and go about my day. By the way, you may think that pulling my hair back into a bun looks dowdy, but I wear nice makeup and pretty lipstick and get so many compliments(from strangers and friends) about how chic I look or well put together, so it appears to everyone that the look is intentional, little do they know that with my waist length hair, this is the only style I can pull off and not look balding.
