Default seems very overwhelming...

I am new to the board. I have hypothyroidism, PCOS (just found out last week), and possibly diabetes.

I recently started synthroid. I started taking it a year ago but I moved overseas and didnt get a chance to get a refill before I moved. So now I get to start all over again, when I was first on the medication I was on the smallest dose. I go back to the doctor next month to get tested.

How long did it take you to get on the correct dose? I know that it is different for everyone, I'm just curious about your experiences.
I dont feel any different being on Synthroid so I am thinking that I must not be on the right dose.

I started Levoxyl a little over 2 months ago...and while I do feel somewhat better, I still feel that I have a long way to go. It takes 6 weeks for a dose to build up in your system, to know whether or not the dose suits you. At week 6 on 50mcg my symptoms started worsening again, so my GP increased me to 75mcg. I've been on 75mcg almost 3 weeks now and I feel I'm making progress.

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi ericswife,

Sorry to hear you have so much to manage all at once!

I wanted to post my experience just for you to keep in the back of your mind while you are trying to get to the "right dose" of thyroid meds.

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism and pre-diabetes. The docs put me on Levothroid and told me to diet and exercise to lose the weight of PCO. Fast forward 10 years, I am only now getting the correct medications to help. I feel like I should stand as a warning to all others in this position! (joke, kind of)

Are you seeing an endocrinologist? And, an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid? It is really important that you do. For many people levothroid will do the job and they feel fine on it, but for me, the medication never worked like the docs believed it should. Many times I reported that it wasn't doing anything, that I wasn't feeling better and they brushed me off and said it was.

I thought maybe you were in a similar situation b/c you didn't feel any change with the meds you are on and when I first started to take the levothroid I had no idea why I was on it, and I never saw/felt any change.

I took levothroid for 10 years and kept upping the dosage when what I needed was to change medications. I just started Armour Thyroid in combination with levothroid and I feel like I have my life back. The mood swings and fatigue are going away.

I started here researching as much as possible on PCOS, but I also spent time reading the forums on thyroid. http://www.realthyroidhelp.com When you get to a place where you are really frustrated (and I hope this doesn't happen for you) please visit this site for additional information and support. They are really, really great!

Best of lulck to you! Keep us posted on how you are feeling!
