This is the place that I thought suited this topic best and I'm sorry if I'm triggering anything for any of you but I just need somebody to talk to about it. I made the first agnozing step today on telling my Therapist. Kyle knows and one really, really, really good friend. I've been SI'ing since high school but the past year has been really hard. Has anybody gone through this?

I starting SI when I was about 15 (almost 13 years ago). It has been a struggle for me, but I have not done it in about two years.
I am glad you told your therapist. After all, you really should be up front when you are in therapy. My DH knows, and a few very close friends. It is something that I prefer to keep private from others.
(((HUGS))) I hope therapy is helping!

For the ladies who have overcome--how long did it take for you to get to that point? Right now I'm not really willing to work on it but I know I need to get my mind set on a different level. It was very hard for me to admit to her. I've been seeing her for almost 3 years and this was the first step I guess. Do you have any good books to recommend? I looked on Amazon but dont know what to order, if anything...

Anne, it took me a LONG time, about 5 years to get to where i am today.
I would go clean for a week, then SI, then i would go two weeks, then 4.... i event went 6 months clean and then SI.
Its hard, its something you will struggle with forever.
I also am suffering from depression during pregnacy, and there have been a few time i wanted to SI during this preg. You just have to find a few people who you can talk to, and come to them when your feeling your worst and lay your heart and emotions on the table.
I found that journaling online did it for me. It was a way that i could write down everything that i was feeling, everything that i dident want to speek, but was there... it helped. I have my journal posted online so people can read it and comment. but ya.... some of my entrys i have posted are privet so no one can read them. but its the way i coped.

Thank You for the reply Kutrina. My therapist pretty much told me that I will struggle, fail and struggle and fail and it will take time, etc. Right now I'm still finding it hard to say that I want to quit when in reality, I'm lying to myself when I say it. I know it is damaging my body but at the same time that is my release of pain. I just wish other people would understand but I know..easier said then done. For me it has been hard to explain it to the 3 people who know, IRL.
A question--were you put on any medication to help control the urge? She wants me to talk to my Psych about it (dreading it) to see if there is some other combination of meds that would work in my favor.

Ann, i was put on a med at the time, i dont remeber the name. but what your shrink said was right.
you will have little times when you overcome, and there will be times when you fail.
Its the two steps forward one step back thing.
Its hard.
I recomend getting a journal online (dont have to make your jounral public) and just write down your feelings.
Try a new craft or hobby that makes you use your hands.
My dad got me in to knitting and crochet when i was trying to quit. it was hard, but now i love to crochet and make lots of things for people.
I also found that it was good to talk to someone i trusted when i felt the urge. I would text my DH (when were were dating) and do other things.....
do you have msn? if you do and want to talk im online a lot during the day (at home on rest while PG)
