The cover has Jessica Alba on a beach in a yellow tunic over a bikini--so the dominant color is yellow (spine is bright orange). This is the July 2005 issue.

It was a decent article. I wished they had mentioned the name pcos on the cover. I also wished the article was not at the back of the magazine. It could have been more in-depth. I'm going to write the magazine & thank them for the coverage of pcos. I'll also mention more details of pcos.

Yeah I wished they had mentioned the syndrome on the front cover, instead of it being hidden in the back. I though the article was a little slanted towards the fertility issue, since the author had no idea what it was like to have the weight, acne, and hair problems that many, or I'd say most women with PCOS suffer to some degree. Also, not every woman who has PCOS has cysts on their ovaries, another point that author used because she had cysts, but should have researched her facts a little more. I guess any media attention is good, but I just found it to be a little too much skewed from her perspective and less comprehensive in that there are so many forms of PCOS. I did like how she hammered home the disease issue, but some PCOS sufferers, their lipids are just fine, as well as their other vitals. I wish she had just said researchers are not sure yet what PCOS is, and that the title itself is a misnomer, and it's a syndrome still being investigated. Anyways, that's my 2 cents

I read the article and agree with Stormieyes73 and cec414. I would have liked to see the name PCOS on the cover, too. The article was definitely geared towards infertility. I came away with the impression that the author thought that since she was able to have a baby, all is well and good. I would have liked more details about the other potential problems.
Stormieyes, let us know if that letter to the editor gets printed!
My FMIL gets Self Mag and saved it for me to read. She was so excited that they did an article on PCOS. I agree with the above posters that it shouldn't have been way in the back and that they should have touched on more subjects but I am happy nonetheless that they did an article on PCOS as I hope it will reach lots of women.
I read the article too...I didn't buy the mag, I just read it at the newsstand while I was grocery shopping...y'see 'cause I'm such a cheapskate. LOL. True, I agree with everyone's comments - it should have been mentioned on the cover, it shouldn't have been put in the back, etc. - , but I'm still happy to see anything about PCOS in the media...an issue this important and widespread has been neglected too long.
Thanks for letting us know, Molanna!
