Has anyone done this yourself ? I had two in my armpit and the NP in my doctors office removed them but she wouldn't do the one on my eyelid. She said to have the dermatologist do it but I can't get in to see him until December and I have an event in a couple of weeks and it REALLY bothers me. It is long and narrow - anyone try doing this on their own ??????

I had about 20 skin tags in my armpits for several years. They really bothered me; but, I didn't want to pay to have them removed. One night about two years ago, I was so sick of them that I did it myself.
I put ice cubes on the area to numb it a little first, and then clipped them off with nail clippers that had been sanitized with rubbing alcohol. It DOES hurt, especially the bigger ones. And they bled quite a bit. I put a few band-aids over the really bloody ones. They've never come back and it feels so nice.
I've heard of others tying string around them to "suffocate" the skin and make it fall off. Mine weren't in places where I could tie a string though.
Others have used wart remover from the grocery store.
That being said, since this is on/near your eye be VERY CAREFUL. I wouldn't dare do anything to one on my eye. You could call around and check out other dermatologists, or see if you can find a general practitioner who will take it off if you really don't want to wait.
the first 2 or 3 I found were like elongated hairs of skin...I thought they were ingrown hairs or something, and since they weren't very thick, I pinched them off...can't remember if I twisted them off or if I used nail clippers. It wasn't until I began researching PCOS that I had the "ah ha!" experience of knowing what it was.
My mom cut one off of her eyelid. She didn't have money to see the dermatologist. Tying the string around them keeps them from bleeding so much when you cut. I have never had the patience to leave it on long enough for them to fall off on their own.
Mom and I both get them, and use cuticle scissors to cut them off. Hate those little things so much, esp. the ones that get rubbed by the bra.

I remove mine but i wouldn't attempt any on my eyelid. My dad had one and his GP wouldn't do it he had to go to a specialist.
For me is a GP won't attempt it then i'm certaintly not going to

I also would not remove one on my eye. It sounds 1000 times more painful for that delicate area.
I also didn't have the patience to use the tied string method. It actually started hurting me more, and it was only tied for a few minutes, so that is what made me cut them off in the first place.

I've removed a couple of small ones on my neck before, but I wouldn't try it around the eye. The skin is too delicate there and easily damaged, plus if you got an infection it would be bad. I also don't have the nerve to remove bigger ones myself from anywhere.

I don't think there is anyway to prevent them - some seem to be genetics (my Dad had them) - that said I have noticed that since I got my Diabetes under control I have NOT gotten any new ones.

I've read that putting liquid bandage stuff on them will make them fall off. You know, that new stuff which is a lot like super glue? You can google it because I read it a few different places on the internet.
I tried tying thread around the few small ones I have, but it hurt like hell.

I've learned that the key is to restrict/stop the blood flow to the skin tag somehow (i.e. thread, twisting, pinching, slicing, etc.) and then it will come off, usually after it turns dark, shrinks, and dries out. This takes a day or two for mine. I've taken off quite a few. My favorite way (if you could call it that!!) is pinching between my fingernails for several minutes at a time repeatedly until it bleeds a little and then leave it alone and it'll usually come off the next day (might need some additional picking). I've also taken my tiny sharp sewing scissors and sliced the tag just enough so it bleeds. This accomplishes the same thing. I am too much of a baby to try the outright clipping! I have 2 small tags on my eyelid, but the derm won't deal with it. I don't know how to get them off, because I don't want to try any of my established methods. I hate getting things near my eyes, including my fingers!
I have tried New Skin. I takes a couple days, but it does work. I've never tried the string, bu my aunt has. She does it in the winter so she can wear a turtleneck to cover the ones on her neck.
