Is anyone sensitive to smells from Metformin? I increased my dose from 850mg once a day - no side effects - 500mg twice a day.
Now everything smells so strong and it's really making me nauseous.
Any one else??
CS
I went through that too the first several months. Everything seemed stronger, and I easily felt turned off by smells...especially food. Thankfully that passed within a month or two. Hope it does for you too.
Babydust4: We have discussed thehorrid fish fragrance on this forum before, and it's nasty, isn't it?! I got a new version of met called Glycon that is coated and has no scent, so see if your pharmacist can get that in for you.

I have this too. I tought it was only me. I smell everything and anything a mile away. It isnt so much as the sick feeling fromt he smell but I can smell stuff no one else can. I feel like dog sniffing out things LOL!
I've been on Met for a few months now and I have noticed the same thing. I have always been extra sensitive when it somes to smells, but now it is so bad I cannot even eat certain foods that I used to love! I can't stand any kind of fish, peppers or chiles (including bell peppers!), or eggs. It all smells too strong or rotten, even when it is fresh! I even have to hold my breath when I eat dairy or else it gags me... and I like dairy foods!!! Or I used to anyway. I hope it goes away or at least gets better in time.

I can sympathise. I am taking 1500mg met and I spent the first month driving dh crazy by going round the house saying "where is that awful smell coming from" when nobody else could smell anything. Our dogs had it worst as I couldn't take their smell even after a really good bath. It did get slowly better but I still feel sick if there is a strong smell of anything around.
Me too, everything seems to have a stronger "odor" now - to the point of being sickening...
I can't even stand the smell of food being prepared in cafes now.
My poor hubby is reluctant to come near me now, because he is a smoker & since being on the met, I can smell the smoke fumes on him before he even comes inside (he smokes outside the house).
Atleast now, I know I am not the only person with an extra sensory ability for now.
I was doing some searching to see if there was other documentation of taste/smell issues with Met. This article specifically lists Met as a factor in dysgeusia (The distortion of taste).
Taste and smell are definetly closely related, so take heart..it's normal.
