Default Sex after d&c and getting pregnant again

Hi,
I had a d&c September 1st. I got two sets of discharge instructions, one in Finnish and the other in English. Both of them said completely different things. The English set said absolutely no sex for 2 weeks. The Finnish set said sex was permitted after the bleeding has stopped. Well, I had sex on September 11th and then again on September 13th (the early morning of September 11th, about 10 days and 10 hours after my d&c). Now i'm scared that I should have waited. The doctor said on September 7th that I could have sex as long as I used a condom for a week. I know it was stupid, but I didn't use one. When I had the d&c they told me I would ovulate about 2 weeks later. I knew that if I waited to weeks to have sex then I would miss that ovulation. So, I had sex the morning of the 11th. I had some strange sensation a few hours after sex. Almost like a period cramp, same kind of pain, but without the cramp. I felt to see if my cervix felt closed and it did. But, i'm afraid now that I might have an infection. Also, has anyone had shooting pains through their breasts and off and on sensitivity after a d&c? When I was pregnant, my breasts were hyper sensitive. Now some days they are and some days they arent. I thought I was ovulating but now im not sure. One last thing, sorry, I have little bits of brownish discharge that is almost gummy. Like snot that has been allowed to dry a bit so that you can roll it into a ball(really sorry for the grossness). Has anyone had this? Does it sound like I have an infection or that i'm ovulating? Oh and one last thing, after a d&c do you get the same ovulation signs as you did before the d&c? Thank you and I apologize again for the grossness. Sorry one last thing and I promise this is the last, how soon after the d&c did you get pregnant again if you did? Are we really more fertile after a d&c even if the pregnancy could have been from spontaneous ovulation?

((Hugs))
This is the worst time, because the best thing to do is wait until you have at least one decent period. That's a cue that your lining has built back up to a healthy level. I am sorry that the time drags on like this, but it won't be long, and your body will be ready again. I'm just pleased for you that you were able to ovulate on your own and might not need their help for conception. Keep up the good work on your health, and I'm sure it won't be long.
Take care, Sweetie.

Thank you for answering Sheri. It is very hard to wait. It took me 6 years to get pregnant. What if it takes another 6? I'm 31 already. I'm afraid to waste anymore cycles because they're might not be that many left. But, I will wait. From all i've read, it is probably best. It is just hard not to try.

I know you are from Missouri Sheri. I am planning on coming home between the 1st and the 12th of October. I am from St Charles, do you know of any clinics in Missouri that will help me regardless of my weight? I am 5'4.5" and weigh about 290. I will still be dieting and exercising, but I don't expect any dramatic change any time soon and I don't want to wait until i'm thin to start trying again.

I am sorry you are going through this. But I was told by my RE to wait one cycle before trying again. I haven't had to have a d&c, so i cant help you there. In fact I have been going through this m/c for over a month now. And I cant wait for it to be over.

I am about an hour and a half north of st.charles But I don't know any doctors there. I go to a RE in springfield, Il and she has never mentioned anything about my weight and I am pleased with that.

Best of luck to you.

Most good RE's and fertility specialists here know whom they are dealing with. They appreciate the fact that you are working on it, and even if you are not, most of them will help you. I'll try to spend a few hours looking up some St. Louis area docs and will ask my doctor's office folks tomorrow afternoon if they know anyone down there. I'm sure you can call the offices of some and ask some questions like that, but I still think that you'll conceive on your own again. I really think for many of us (lucky) cysters, as soon as we start getting healthy enough, we ovulate. Every minute on the treadmill or every pound we lose or every healthy meal we eat helps. I sure do wish you lots of luck! If I felt comfortable travelling, I'd come down and see ya! But I'm not leaving the KC area until this baby is out.

Look at it this way Acajou, if it takes you six years to get pregnant, one month or two isn't going to make that much of a difference, especially if it gives the baby a good chance..

And if it does take you 6 years, than the worst that will happen is that you'll be 37 and pregnant. I know that isn't every persons dream, and I think most people do want to be able to do it earlier than that...but its not the end of the world either. At 31 you are still young.

I really hope it happens sooner for you of course, I think coming back to the US is a good start. I think there are plenty of clinics here that will help you.

Aviva (who is 37 as of yesterday, and pregnant, and who just found out that her 42 year old friend is now pregnant)

I think my instructions were sex when I felt comfortable. But I was also told to wait to TTC until I had a real cycle. I am entering (fingerscrossed) my second cycle since my 2nd miscarriage. My boobs still hurt and are leaking. I don't know the reason, but if you find out let me know. And the brownish discharge, I had that too. I think it is just left over blood. Mine eventually went away. As for how o feels, hum, I have never felt it before, so I can't help you there.

Okay now about getting pg. I had my first miscarriage and had a D&C in April. I got Pg again in June on my first cycle back, but I miscarried that baby as well.

HTH, and big hugs to you.

Thanks for answering all of you.
I got my test results back today. They tested for infection and chlamydia. Everything came back negative. The doctor said that there is not chance at all that I have PID and the fact that the pregnancy was intrauterine shows that my tubes are open. So, that is a relief. I was reading yesterday and read that a thick lining can cause miscarriage? At the time of my d&c, my lining was 22 mm. Is that too thick? After I finish the course of antibiotics he put me on when he was sure, through a physical examination, that I had bacterial vaginitis. I will start tacking 100mgs of aspirin a day. There is no baby aspirin here. Just 50mgs of buffered aspirin. Also, I had a scan done on September 7th and they said my endometrial lining was 3mm. Does it grow so fast? My d&c was September 1st and they scraped to the uterine wall.

pa1nter: My breasts were also sore until last week. It still felt like I was pregnant. Now they are no longer sore, but my nipples aren't like they used to be pre pregnancy. Also, my breasts have not gone down in size. I am a cup size bigger than i was before i got pregnant and I was a DD before I got pregnant. Do you think they will go down? I am a bit worried that they will get even bigger with my next pregnancy (hoping there will be a next one) and won't go down.

AvivaElona: You are right. I have decided to wait until at least one cycle. I think physically and emotionally it is just a better option. It is just hard when you are suddenly pregnant after being told it will never happen on your own and then when you start to get used to the idea, the baby is gone. I wasn't even technically trying. I had lost weight and was on 2250mgs of metformin a day and 2 weeks after starting that high dosage of metformin, I was pregnant. The amount of desperation I have to get pregnant again is overwhelming. It is even stronger than it was before I had gotten pregnant. How long did it take for you to get pregnant again? How did you get pregnant?

SheriKCMO: I don't blame you for not wanting to go anywhere until you are pregnant. I called two fertility doctors that I have heard good things about. Jorge A Pineda and Anthony Pearlstone. Do you know of either one of them? Anyway, Pineda's nurse told me that they would not refuse me, but would just counsel me to lose weight. But that would not stop them from treating me. Pearlstone's nurse said that she couldn't say, but that he would send me to a counselor to talk about my weight and do testing. She said that he gets nervous treating patients with a bmi over 30, but he would still probably treat me. Well, my BMI is way way over 30. I'm 5'4.5" and 290. That would be nice to meet though, after your baby is born of course. I am still in Finland. But I will be back within a month. I have a lot of relatives in KCMO and KCK. You really think i'll be able to conceive again? God, I hope so. I'm scared that this was a fluke.

TracyW2: You have been going through your miscarriage for a month? I'm very sorry. How far along were you? The doctors here keep changing their minds with me. They said 7 weeks first, then 9 weeks...now the concensus is 12 weeks. I don't know. How far is springfield from st charles? I have a house in St charles off of zumbehl. I don't know if you know where that is. I would be 100% willing to travel far if the doctor will treat me regardless of my weight. OF course i'll be exercising and dieting, but they should be willing to treat me while i'm doing this.

Acajou, I wish you were getting better and more consistant answers from your doctor. I think it would help allay a lot of your fears. Can you get hold of your medical records? If you can bring them with you to your new RE I bet they will be able to help more. (or are all of your records written in finnish?) It seems like you are getting really mixed messages. (if you had a blighted ovum, how are they deciding that you were 12 weeks along? The size of the sac? If it wasn't a blighted ovum, why aren't they telling you that?)

If the doctors were right and you had a blighted ovum, than you don't need anything else to have caused a miscarriage. A blighted ovum is a baby that just didn't develop from the original cells into a fetus, usually due to a defect that happened with the chromosomes dividing at conception. Its not likely to happen again and it wouldn't matter how thick or thin your lining was.

That means you can stop worrying about what "caused" your miscarriage. Blighted ovums can happen to anyone and there is no known cause for them. It didn't happen because of your weight, or the thickness of your lining, or any other cause other than unfortunate chance.

(((((hugs))))))) I know how hard this all is, I can imagine how much harder it must be when you are in a foreign country and you don't trust your doctors. I'm sending vibes that you get more of the answers you need when you get back here. I think its really hopeful that you got pregnant so quickly once you started taking Met.

To answer your other question, I was already on Met the first time I started TTC we got pregnant within a few months of starting to try. After my loss at 19 weeks, we waited til I had one healthy normal cycle, which took three months after my loss. We got pregnant on the first try and I was pregnant with my second son before my first son's due date. I was taking 2000mg of Met and I still am. We didn't take anything else to try to get pregnant, and I see an endicrinologist to monitor my blood sugar, but I don't even see an RE.

The first time I got pregnant I weighed 220, and the this time I weighed 210 and I am 5'3". No one has mentioned my weight to me really as much of a factor in anything except to say that I shouldn't gain a lot of weight while pregnant (I actually ended up losing 30 pounds instead but that's another story). I'm glad they have put you back on the met, without Met I do not lose weight at all, on Met, without dieting I was losing weight at about a pound a month...slow but steady.

I hope some of that helps. Good luck to you and baby dust when you are ready.

Aviva
