Post Aldactone?

My doxtor just started me on this medication... said my testosterone level was a little low. how will this help with the facial hair and stuff i already have? will it make it go away or just help with the future things?

Angry sex change???

I figured having low testosterone would be ok... since testosterone is for males isnt it? anyway they did a blood test on me at the doctor and called and said my testosterone was low (67 and supposed to be a 76) they put me on aldactone... but my question is... dont people who want to change their sex take testosterone? oh man i dont want that to happen... what will happen when i am taking this aldactone? what does it do?

Both men and women have testosterone, just in different amounts.

You want 'normal' levels of testosterone for women.

If you're showing signs of androgen sensitivity (ie thining hair, acne, hirsutism), your doctor might feel that the aldactone might help.

PS
You can always (and probably 'should' always) ask your doctor why they're Rx'ing a particular med for you. Ask specifically 'how' it works, too.

that's another name for spirolactone right? I think your doctor said it's not supposed to be OVER 76. I started out in the 90's but 67 is still kinda high. Last time I checked I was down to 30's but it was still high enough to have acne issue so the dr wanted it lowered even more.

This woman I went to for electrolysis told me that people going through a sex change are put on it. (Also great electrolysis clients) But the point is it lowers testosterone that men have a lot of....to become more like a woman. In pcos we have more testosterone, so spriro is used to lower it.

oh i thoguht that it was used to raise it. well that makes me feel better if it is supposed to lower it. I have dealt with bad acne since about 5th grade. (im 22 now) and my hair used to be so thick... and man i hated it... but now its SO THIN and i miss it being thick! and hair started growing places it shouldnt!!! its like it was turning back from going out of my scalp and coming out EVERYWHERE ELSE!!!

Relax! No, it won't cause you to "change sex" -- others have already pointed to how it works and the effects it has.

One of the problems we have is that with PCOS we already have many of the secondary sex characteristics that are usually associated with males. with many of us, our bodies have been sensitized before birth to respond to testosterone and our ovaries produce testosterone in quantities which in some instances are as high as the levels in males. What can be done sometimes is to use drugs to reduce the production of testosterone or its precursors and/or block the effects of testosterone so that it doesn't produce those "male" secondary sex characteristics in us. As to whether your facial hair will go away, a lot depends on how heavily sensitized to testosterone your face is, and how well established your beard growth is. You could certainly hope to have a considerable reduction and it might even disappear.

Some effects of testosterone are pretty-well permanent, though. The "pregnant 'man'" raises a lot of issues that are of relevance -- s/he still has a very obvious beard, though rather less than a real male would have. And that's an apparently-genetically-normal woman who's been off androgens for two years.
