Default Sex Hormone Binding Globulin

Shortly after I was diagnosed with PCOS overseas, my general physician was baffled by a hormone workup indicating that my testosterone/progestin levels were all completely normal. Thank God for my eagle-eyed German OBGYN! He promptly spotted that my body was not producing sex hormone binding globulin in sufficient quantities, which meant that the amound of testosterone in my blood stream was too high.

So my question is, are there any medications that mimic or replace SHBgH? Is this something that can be synthesized, and if no, why not? There was a minor language barrier with my doctor, and I'm wondering if there may be a treatment plan out there that I am unaware of...

I don't know of any, but that is exactly what happened to me. My dr is treating it with metformin.

Estrogen increases the amount of SHBG, which is why it is a treatment for pcos (BCPs). Exercise can also help to increase SHBG to a modest degree.

So your total results were normal and your free testosterone was elevated right? That is what would happen if your liver was not making enough SHBG.

I have the same problem as you. When I was on BCP it went up, but still low normal. I am on met, but doesn't help the SHBG... I also have positive thyroid antibodies and elevated DHEAS, but normal totol testosterone and FSH/LH, keep us posted!
