Default the shadow

This is along the lines of my previous post about the shadow that remains on my upper lip. Does anyone have any makeup or product suggestions for effectively making the shadow look any better? Also, does exfoliating help or worsen the problem? And how about tanning, does this make the shadow worse or better?

Thanks!!

I never noticed it as much when I was going to the tanner. Right now since I'm pg - I've had to start shaving again because it's not safe to use the lightener or remover - and I think it's so noticeable (since I'm not tanning now either) .....

I've posted before about my make up tips. Hope this can help you... Just remember it takes practice to get it right. I've had to start over many times after applying the powder and it not looking right.

I use Revlon Colorstay all over my face. I would suggest using as close to your natural shade. The last thing I' would want to do is bring more attention to my face by having a dark foundation line showing. Stick to your natural shade. I then apply yellow concealer to my upper lip only. (Physician's Formula powder finish stick - less oily and lasts longer than the black cased one). Then using my fingertip I blot on red lipstick until I get the shade of 'sunburn'. Then, using a make up sponge, I blot on Physician's formula Le Velvet Film Makeup in a lighter shade. I use Ivory. Using several Q-tips, I then clean it up and blend the edges. After many many trials, I finally discovered my right shades of powder. I use three shades of Revlon Colorstay compact face powder. Fair. Medium/Light and Medium. I blend the colors and dab away on a another face puff and then apply to my upper lip and blend it all over my fave. And whola... I can get out of the house and be seen in public.

It seems like a lot of work and a lot of make up, but they are my survival tools! I could not live with out my make up!!! I hate being this way, but my upper lip shadow is dark and I would never be seen without my concealer! Maybe one of these days I'll take the time to post some pics of my routine. I actually found these tips on this website and I'm glad I did. I, seriously, don't know what I'd do without these products.

I wonder if you bleached the area first before applying makeup it would be less noticeable and easier for you to cover up? Just a thought . . .

Explain. What do you mean "bleach the area"? I shave and tweeze, so I don't have hair to bleach. Bleach the skin??? If you're aware of an extra tip that could help me hide the shadow, please let me know! I am always looking for new tips on this site!!

I do use bleach on my side burns and cheeks, but I only have the shadow on my upper lip.

Maybe I consider shadow something different. I literally have a dark 'stain' on my upper lip after shaving. I am very self conscious of my facial hair and always shave and tweeze.

Sorry to not be more specific earlier. What I meant was to bleach the hair.
That is what I do. Also I cut the hair a little shorter. I would love to be rid of it completely but am afraid it will be horrendous to keep up with if I remove it (like on my chin). I only have to bleach it about once a month.

I did happen to read somewhere on a previous thread in the "hair problems board" someone saying that their skin was darker there (like a stain) due to insulin resistance. They said what helped this was reducing carbs, and modifying the diet. Wish I could tell you exactly where I saw this.

Since you tweeze too can I ask you a question about that? I have tweezed hair on my chin for years and now have damaged my skin from it. Have you had this problem? I have little ugly bumps and also the skin is darker now than the rest of my face. I don't think it is the same thing as the above problem though. It is awful and I don't know what to do. I have stopped tweezing for now and shave, which I hate! Ugh!

I tweeze my chin. I feel like I caused a lot of damage to my face too, including my upper lip. I feel like it's due to my tweezing that I've ended up with this shadow problem As far as my chin, I don't worry about it to much because it's not a signaficant problem for me right now. I manage it by daily shaving and tweezing 1x wk. Using the Revlon Colorstay is enough to hide the mild discolorations on my chin.

I am actually doing very good on changing my eating habits and decreasing my carbs a lot, which as helped me lose some weight but I've also noticed such great improvement on my skin. My face feels healthier and the shadow has decrease just a bit. I still can't live without my make up routine though.

Tweezing eventually distorts the hair root and the hair ends up growing at an unnatural angle. It shows up particularly badly on the upper lip where the hair normally grows in a downward direction and, at the outer edges, slightly outwards towards the side of the face.

O gosh I can't imagine tweezing my lip! Ouch! I've did my chin several times but it breaks out so badly afterward. That hurts like all get out.

I don't get it? What's the difference between tweezing the hair and waxing it? It still "pulls" the hair out the same. So why would tweezing be bad and waxing supposedly make it grow back finer as so posts indicate.?????

Effectively there's no difference between waxing and tweezing. If you pull out a hair which has not been the result of hormonal stimulation, then after a few times removal of hair from that follicle regrowth may indeed become much weaker. But if the hair growth has been hormonally stimulated, the opposite result is likely.
