I was on met on and off, not taking it at the mo, gonna start again in a week or so. When i go out with friends for a drink, whether i have 1 drink or get really drunk, an hour or so after i get home my whole body starts to shake. Not badly, more like trembling. Does anyone else have this problem? I thought maybe it's cause the alcohol has caused my blood sugar to rise( i drink vodka mixed with red bull-energy drink), but you shake when blood sugar gets too low. I also sometimes shake when i'm tired, but my main concern is when i've been drinking. Also, if i haven't had a full nights sleep after going out, i shake for a few hours after waking!
Sorry to go on, but i'm curious to see if i'm the only one this happens to!!!!!
I don't think you are supposed to drink alcohol while you are taking met. I'm not sure of the exact reason, but I do remember not being able to drink while I was on it.

OMG I'm 40!!!!! DH is too...hee hee.
One awesome 5 year old son and one equally wonderful 15 year old step-daughter
Glucophage 2x day
Sythroid .75mcg
lost 80 lbs on CAD and maintained for 3 years, but got stuck. Still trying to loose, hoping the Gluc will help.
YES this has started to happen to me since I have been low carbing. When I wake up the next day I feel shaky and trembly. I think it is blood sugar going too low because alcohol lowers your bloody sugar. I'm not sure how when you are mixing your drinks with red bull though? I only drink wine and I know it is not because I am an alcoholic or anything (they get the shakes til they have another drink). Sometimes I have to have a fruit juice to make it go away
This is odd but alcohol, regardless of carb content, is an insulin sensitizer. (odd) So since you usually have a high insulin response due to being insulin resistant, when you drink your insulin suddenly kicks in and uses up all the sugar in your system, causing a low sugar response or hypoglycemic reaction.
This does not mean you should drink alcohol as an insulin sensitizer because there are many really bad effects to that of course.

True, I am not condoning alcohol consumption BUT it has to be said that if I drink moderately (one glass of red wine with my evening meal) I lose weight slightly faster than if I don't.
If I stick to one glass I do not get the BIG drop in blood sugar the next morning.
As for the Red Bull with your alcohol I have just read another post somewhere by someone who feels that Red Bull helps them with AF as it does contain inositol and something else, sorry can't quite recall, but apparently helps with insulin sensitizing. So that may be giving you a double whammy for the shakes! Also it contains the same amount of caffeine as a strong cup of coffee and caffeine can have the "shake" effect too! So maybe a triple whammy then
If I know I have consumed a little too much alcohol I take a glass of diluted juice to bed with me and drink it throughout the night. It does help, although I am a little scared of carbs at the moment so I just use a small amount of juice topped up with water.
I seem to remember reading something that with IR, if you get too much sugar, then you're body starts overproducing insulin to deal with it, when it finally gets to a level that works all the extra insulin causes your blood sugar to plummet. So it could be that the sugar in the alcohol/red bull is causing your insulin to spike and therefore actually leading to low blood sugar an hour or two later.. I'd say if the suggestions about fruit juice and such work, that may be it.
On the other hand, I have lots of friends who get uncontrollably shaky when they have too much sugar just because it makes them hyper to the point where they have to concentrate to stop twitching the leg... I've had that kind of jitters from the caffeine/sugar in red bull before too, so it could be that.

Unfortunately the insulin sensitizing effects of alcohol seem to be completely missing where I'm concerned; I drink the equivalent of 1 glass of wine and I bloat up like a balloon! Then I suffer all the aches and pains, headaches etc you get from edema. I don't know what gives. It didn't used to be that way for me...
