Question sharp shooting pelvic pains?

i just started my period today and I am getting sharp shooting pains on the left side of my pelvis and abdomen. Usually when I get cramps I hurt all over down there but this time it's only on the left side of my pelvis. It hurts to bend or move.

Hi Katy,
I get these shooting pains in my right and sometimes my left side also. I asked the gyn but she says that some nerve might be getting pressed. BUt my own bit of reserch on the net made me realize that the sometimes the cysts on the ovaries cause this pain. Sometimes it is so bad that with every step i walk the impact jolts me and i get the pain. At such times i wear very soft soled shoes to lessen the impact of walking. But apart from that I have found no 'cure' for this and have to manage with it somehow. Let me know if you get to know more about it.

I also get shooting pains sometimes during AF. I asked my doctor about it and he told me that some women have small uterine contractions during AF to help move clots, tissue and anything that needs to be cleaned out. Sometimes the flow just isn't enough to do a good cleaning, so these contractions help to pass out the unwanted to avoid infections or buildup. That's what I always remember when I start thinking about why I'm having those shooting pains.
