I cant believe some of you need to shave every day. This may sound awful but since my syptoms have been steadily increasing, including hair growth. I am now terrified that there is yet more ordeal to come in the endless hair removal battle. But surely it will always make the situation worse. I'm a waxer and can now wax parts that would make your eyes water to think about, but I have then a month of free reign. You can buy cold wax strips from chemist. They are great and after a few painful goes it dont hurt so much. Surely it gotta be better than shaving everyday. Have also tried electroylis waste of money o hormonal growth- Dont bother
That's great that you can wax. I started having to shave my face everyday in 1987 when I was almost 21. I am now 36 and still have to do it. Waxing never helped. Even laser hair removal did not help much. I did start on the perscription cream Vaniqua a few months ago and that has helped tremendously. It only works as long as you use it everday though and it is not covered by insurance and nor is it cheap.
It frustrates me that there are not many viable solutions for women who are in this situation. I listen to women who say that they pluck and tweeze the hairs out, but if I did that I would be in front of the mirror for hours on end. My facial hair covers my upper lip, chin and neck. No one can tell that I shave (I have gotten great at after 15 years), and I apply makeup carefully to hide any imperfections.
Still, it is a shame that we women have to endure such measures because of a medical condition.
If they can put a man on the moon, you would think that they could invent a way to permanently and easily remove facial hair - lol.
Hi all - I personally think that they could come up with a permanent solution to excess hair growth. BUT think of all of the money that would be lost if they did. The companies that sell
would lose money big time and probably go out of business! I'm sure that as much as we want the scientists to come up with a PERMANENT hair removal systom, they don't!
I may be paranoid but I don't think that they're going to look as hard for a permanent hair removal systom when there is so much moolah on the line! Just my opinion!
I had electrolysis 4 years back near upper & lower lips. But still need the touch up also getting more & more hairs under the chin always... which I pluck though takes long time once in two days!!
I used to be a waxer too, but now I am a daily shaver. When I used to wax, it wouldn't come back for a couple of weeks. Towards the end of my waxing days, the hair would be coming back in within a few days (not worth the pain for that short of time span!!) the area I waxed was not smooth anymore. I could always feel stubble. Plus, I started to get many ingrown hairs which caused many skin problems for me. I would love to not have to shave daily, but I don't have any other options anymore.
The problem is the stigma attached towards women shaving I mean think about it ewwwww!!! It is even made fun of in scary movie. I do shave everyday sometimes twice . I tried vaniqua and laser but to no avail. I get worried that I will get caught but nobody knows I do it. I figure when I go to the bathroom its my quiet time and thats that! I do to wish there would be some permanent solution. Have any of you tried that saw palmetto I read on the boards it works I was going to try it any advice?
I used to bleach my slight moustache but that's no good as hair grows at different rates, some bits get really light, others just don't seem to take, and then you get dark roots! I waxed once but I'm scared of waxing as it can make the hair regrow thicker, darker and stronger. So, I've used a depilatory cream for the first time, it looks great, although I'm totally paranoid that regrowth will be stubbly and my boyfriend will notice when he kisses me!
As for under my chin, please don't say that's going to get steadily worse!!!! Although, I must admit that it has, but I assumed it was my own fault from plucking and making the hairs stronger.
Anyway, I pluck my hair as there isn't a lot of it but as time goes on it gets harder, I have a real in-grown hair problem. I've tried shaving though and I don't like it. I hate being a woman and shaving, it feels wrong. Also you get little black dots and I'm paranoid people will notice, even if I use make-up.
I started taking Saw Palmetto a month ago, so too early to say if it works. You should give these things at least 3 months, although I'm going to carry on taking it even if I haven't seen results as it's my only hope, I don't want to resort to the pill!
Big hugs to all of you fellow hair sufferers, I wish some of you lived near me just so we could console one another as sometimes I feel like I want to curl up in a ball and disappear.
Feeling even worse now people have said electrolysis and laser don't work, great! I can't live like this forever!

I am in the same boat as you all. I have to shave almost everyday. sometimes I can go a day without doing it but by the end of that day its starting to become noticeable so i usually shave everyday. I hate doing it and only a couple of people know about it. It's really hard to tell just anyone that you shave. They look at you like you are crazy so I just keep my mouth shut till i have to explain to someone. Thank GOD i haven't got caught yet. I dread when that day comes.
As far as I know, only my mother and my boyfriend (oh and my doctor) know I even have facial hair, never mind how I get rid of it. I would guess that Brian has figured out what all the razors I go through are for, and my mom certainly knew back in high school (yep, started shaving around age 16), but the words "I shave my chin" have never come out of my mouth - just my fingertips! Hee hee!
I remember when I told Brian I had "wicked bad chin hair" - I was hiding under the blanket. He was so cute - he said "Yeah, so?"
Love that guy.

Tried Ortho-Tri, terrible terrible. Mircette saved my life. Then tried Yasmin which was OK but had some side effects.
Now I'm back on Kariva (generic Mircette) with a low dose of Spiro. Ten bucks a month and I'm in a deliciously good mood.
I took that quiz and I'm Curry Flavored, how cool is that?
I shaved every day, sometimes twice a day (chin, upper lip, cheeks, neck) for 7 years. But now thanks to electrolysis and laser hair removal, about 90% of the hair is gone.

I have to shave every day. I did go for laser treatment over a year ago and the hair on my neck (whick was almost like a full beard) is still very sparse from the treatments. Still several on my chin and sideburns, but great improvement to what it was. Laser didn't improve the upper lip very much. So now I shave that and the other areas daily - since the hair is so much thinner now, that works. When it was so thick before - you could still see it right after I shaved, right below the surface - so I would tweeze - this took about 2 hours daily (plus, read below as to why it only made matters worse in addition to being time consuming).
Been thinking about going back for additional laser treatments to try and take care of the rest of it. Would also like to get treatments for my chest, which is also pretty bad.
By the way - for those of you who tweeze - DON'T! I found out why it is so bad: every time you pull out a hair, it causes a small injury to the follicle. Anytime you have an injury, your body rushes blood to that area. Since the problem is hormonal, and the blood carries these hormones, you are actually rushing hormones to that site of the hair, which stimulates it further. I believe this happens with waxing too. The only way to avoid it is if the injury-causing treatment is destroying the hair follicle (such as with electrolysis or laser). Unfortunately, if you are not doing one of those treatments, shaving is the better option in the long run.
Baylea, you're so right about the tweezing, I posted the same info on another thread. I had no idea that tweezing was making things worse until a few months ago, I'm so mad at myself now!!>( I'd been tweezing for several years - too late now.
I suppose I can't know for sure if tweezing has made the hair on my chin thicker, stronger and worst of all, darker. Maybe it would have gone like that anyway. But the strange thing is that the hair on the other side of my chin hasn't increased. There's like about 5 darker but still quite fine hairs there which at the moment I sometimes shave sometimes cream. I haven't plucked that side though as being right handed it's more difficult to see that side and whatever mirror I use the light always seems to be on the right so I never really see how bad the left is.
To cut a lot of waffle short The side I've been plucking has now about 20 if not more dark thick hairs, some black. And the side I haven't plucked has only 5 fine darker hairs. Strange coincidence??!! I think not.
DON'T wax your moustache!!!!!!!!!!!

I also shave..never did much tweezing..hurt to much..but i have thought about laser..is it really good?..i hear so many conflicting stories on it..my hair is dark so I would love to do something that could make it sparser.
I keep the tweezers next to my living room chair and next to my computer so I tweeze while I do other things. I keep a little mirror next to my chair too--so I can see what I am doing.
If I think my tweezers are slipping off the hairs I squeeze them on an emery board and pull. I think that makes them have more traction. Then I clean them on a cloth and tweeze some more.
I hope this helps.

I agree with you all that shaving absolutely sucks!!
I have to shave everyday, (it becomes part of my daily bathroom routine)otherwise i would end up with a 'goatie'. Its unfair when i have to shave more than my husband!!
Fortunately he is used to my 'hairey bits'
