Default Shaving

It doesn't make your hair grow in thicker does it? I heard that the hair you already have makes it appear to be thicker after it starts growing back, but its still the same. Is that true?

Correct. Shaving does not stimulate growth.

Plucking/waxing/threading/mechanical epilating can sometimes stimulate follicles in the dormant phase into fresh growth and so effectively increase the rate of growth but even that doesn't always happen.

Shaving is the least invasive method of controlling hair growth.

The reason some people believe it grows back thicker is because sometimes it feels 'stronger' because shaving creates a blunt end to the hair, making it feel prickly compared to before.

True.

I think a lot of women are put off shaving their face because advertisers make such a big thing about it being a masculine thing and then when they see and feel coarse stubble they tend to feel it's very unfeminine.

What they don't realise is that long before the stubble is visible or is even likely to be felt by someone else, you can feel it and, if you use a good men's electric razor, shave again before anyone else is going to be aware of it. I particularly like the Philips/Norelco models from their men's range which lift each hair before cutting it, so that the cut end retreats below skin level.

To me, the good thing about shaving is that it takes all the uncertainty out of things. It takes less time than brushing my teeth in the morning and mostly that's it for the day. If we're going out to something special at night I'll shave again to make sure my face is totally smooth even at the end of a long evening.
