Shaving, and looking for a good makeup to hide shadow...

Title says it all really...have just started shaving my beard area 'properly'...and am looking for a good quality foundation to cover any greyness/5 oclock shadow that this might cause. For the right product, price isn't an issue...

Hehe, just my strange term! I meant doing it every morning, and shaving all the areas which are hairy. In the past I've tended to just shave the throat area - that was a pain to pluck! - and then pluck the rest.

Have you looked into laser hair removal or some medication called *spronactolane* that helps to decrease the hair growth?

yes and no. Ideally, I'd like to try some laser work, but I'm broke right now. I'm starting a new job in Sept. which will mean more cash, so hopefully that will mean I can.

As for meds., I still need to convince my doctor that I have a problem. They did run a testosterone screening a while back, and said it was normal, but having read quite a bit about tolerance etc., I'm hoping that this might be a route to pursue.

could you see a different dr instead?? i personally had to change gp surgery to get any pcos help

Hi

I was lucky I moved house and had to change Dr and my Dr one is so lovely - she really listens to me and has tested me for a number of things. My testosterone level came back as normal also, however my GP believed I had PCIS when we went thru my other symptoms and referred me to a specialist. I had an ultrasound and was found yo have cysts on my ovaries. I did have to have lots of blood tests to confirm I have PCOS and now I am on Metformin 500mg x3 daily and my specialist has referred me to a laser clininc for hair removal on the NHS- I am going for my first appointment in 6 weeks so will know what they can treat then.

Please ask to see another Dr at your practice or even swap practices as you shouldn't be ignored.

Studio Fix by Mac is a great cover up and easy to apply. It covers up acne really well too and it only costs about $25 which will last well over a month or two.

I don't have any suggestions since I rarely wear makeup, but I kind of have a question. Why is it better, or 'proper' to shave the beard area and not do any plucking?
Personally, I used to pluck the area every day, and I really needed to; it amazed me how fast the hair grew back--and I was under the belief that plucking/waxing done repeatedly over time will decrease hair growth. So I kept at it. Then, last year, I read a post on here that said that in the case of hormonally caused hair growth, this is not true; in fact, quite the opposite--plucking causes blood to rise to the surface of the follicle, and since the blood is what carries the hormones, it further stimulates growth!
I immediately switched to shaving (1-2x day) and haven't touched tweezers to my face since. That is, until a couple days ago I just decided to give it a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised: my face stays smooth for about 24-36 hours.
I am on BCP now, but only just started my second month.
Does plucking/waxing really make facial hair/hormonally-induced hair grow back faster or thicker, or not, or does it really just depend?

I don't know. I am afraid it might so I don't do anything about it at all. It is not too bad unless I sweat or when my skin gets really, really oily.

Have you tried a cream like Nair to remove the hairs? IMO shaving is harsh on a woman's skin (meaning that it makes it rough). I would rather pluck/wax, use a product like Nair, or bleach the hairs.

I just recent bought studio fix concealer as well but it dosent cover up where my chin is really blotched and red from tweezing but its really good for covering spots etc. The girl said it was super strength and will cover anything so it might be worth a try, you could go to the department store and try it before u buy
What type of razor are u using? i have heard an electric 'lift and cut' type are good but im scared to try lol

I personally find that mineral makeups work really well for me. I have very oily skin and liquid foundations tend to melt off. The mineral makeup stays through the day. I've never tried to cover everything, because it seems to draw attention to small imperfections (in my opinion). I'm a plucker, but you can't get everything. Noone has ever pointed out something I've missed since I'm been using the mineral makeup.
