I have an 11 year old daughter that is showing possible signs of PCOS. I noticed that she was getting a bit of a mustache about a year ago. Tonight I noticed a dark hair on her chin. She just started her period last month. Could this all be related? I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early twenties and I have never been medicated. I will be taking her to the doctor to have them check her out. If this is PCOS, can they slow the process with medication?
i wish i knew the answer to your question. i'm concerned for my daughters as well. the 10 yr old looks like she's sporting a mustache (but she's got dark hair, eyes, skin so i'm hoping that's why) and my 9 yr old has that dark skin on the back of her neck and is pudgy with a big belly. my plan is to wait until they get their periods and then take them to the docs. i just won't let them live a life i did if this thing can be treated, ya know? good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.

I'm also wondering the same thing about my 2 girls. My oldest started her period in Jan. had one in feb & march & now nothing, i noticed a light mustache on her shes blonde headed this is dark, then my 9 1/2 yr old is dark headed and has a light dark mustache, pudge belly also, shes already having to ware a bra & has to shave under her arms AF hasn't showed yet but i think it'll be anytime so i finally had that talk w/ her last night (late i know) she isn't happy about it let me tell you. I sure don't want them going thru the stuff i did so i need to find a good understanding dr soon, have a nice day Diane
My daughter is 8 1/2. She is also showing signs of PCOS. She has a mustache and the dark patches on the insides of her thighs, skin tags in her armpits and she is starting to wear a bra already. My doctor told me he wants to test her when she starts her period. In the meantime he wants me to watch what she eats and try to keep her away from the simple carbs like sugar and white flour. That's hard to do with an 8 yr old let me tell ya. Good luck to all your girls.

I don't know when is too young for PCOS. I've always had dark hair all over my body, and I've been overweight since I was 9 or so. But I didn't actually get dx until I was almost 14. So I don't know, but good luck to all of your girls!

When I was younger people used to tell me I had the body of a dancer. Well, I don't anymore. I have the body of a goddess.
WOW! Listen to me mothers! I am living proof that you can be diagnosed at a young age! I started showing symptoms at the age of eight, and the doctors didn't take me seriously. I was finally diagnosed at 13, and those years I went undiagnosed did substancial damage to my body.
Doctors are stupid when it comes to PCOS. It is up to us to fight for a dx.
