Default Shedding Anyone?

Anyone experience hair shedding during pregnancy? I am 10 weeks along and I am experiencing a lot of hair shed. I thought your hair improved during pregnancy. What's up? Could I have a new thyroid condition that has been brought on by pregnancy? Instead of the vibrant hair most pregnant women have, mine is thin, dull, and shedding.

Wow! I'm so glad you posted this..I meant to bring this up myself many times. I lost alot of hair until my second trimester, too. My hair is dull, lifeless and dry! I have naturally curly hair, and I have actually lost alot of my curl...it's just dry and frizzy. I have worn my hair in a twist for months b/cI can't do a thing with it. It sucks! So you are definately not alone.

I'm shedding too. It's annoying because I'm always plucking hair off everything. My mom said to be prepared for more hair changes after the baby is born too. Sometimes the change in hormones can effect your hair.

Well I was hoping that it was just a temporary thing and after the 1st trimester it would get better. Thanks ladies!

I am still shedding at 21 weeks. It blows, because so many of us don't have thick hair to begin with.

Frantic, you and I are pregnancy twins! I've been shedding ever since I got the BFP. Before I actually found out I was pregnant, I just thought my hair was starting to fall out. I have very fine hair, but still pretty thick, so as far as looks go...not much change. But, here I am, near to my 3rd trimester, and I'm still shedding. When I wash my hair, I always have 5-10 hairs in my hand afterwards. It's totally hormones, at least I hope!

One thing that probably makes it a little better is that I use Nioxin. I don't use the foam treatment, just the shampoo and conditioner but I'm hoping that is helping!

I lost a lot of hair while pregnant. It did slow down and then stop in the 2nd trimester.

I thought I'd escape the after pregnancy hair loss then, but I didn't. Right around 4 months it started. stopped around 6 months pp.

I heard an old wives tale that people who have problems with their hair during pregnancy usually have girls. So far everyone that I know that has had girls has had really bad hair during their pregnancy. Everyone that has had boys that I know has had really great hair. Maybe I am on to something! :-)

PugMama I said it before you and I have a lot in common. :-)

My hair was falling out nearly in CLUMPS in the shower during the entire first trimester. It has slowed down a little bit the past couple weeks (I just began my second trimester), but I am still cleaning out my hair brush every week, and before pregnancy it was every month or two. Hopefully it will stop soon...it doesn't really look any thinner, but geez, if it continues!

Interesting about the hair loss/girl connection. I'm having twins, and we are hoping for boy/girl, but I told DH that it is either boy/girl or girl/girl. I have had all the *signs* of a girl pregnancy according to the old wives tales....hb, skin tags, bad m/s, and now the hair loss. Interesting...
