Default Shopping in Sydney and Brisbane

I am going to be visiting your fair country starting next week and I was wondering if you could suggest any cool stores in Sydney and Brisbane. I love decore shops, fabric and since I'm expecting I wouldn't mind seeing some baby stores i.e nursery decoration, baby items etc. Or if there is something that I just shouldn't miss let me know.

Thanks for any suggestions

Hi Vaughn! I used to live in Stony Plain & Edmonton. I'm now about 1/2 hour south of Brisbane.

Hm, not sure what to suggest since I really haven't been here all that long (since Aug last year). In some malls there is a store called Linecraft that has fabrics & things. There are many baby stores around... Babies Galore, Baby Co are the 2 big ones that I know of. Of course there are lots of small independant ones. Pumpkin Patch is a store that has nice baby, kids and some maternity clothesand it's also in a lot of malls.

The Bub Hub has listings for all kinds of different baby type stores/services all across Australia.

It really depends what kinds of things you like to do for what we can suggest. If you like zoos there's Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo north of Brisbane. It's a bit on the expensive side and in my opinion a little too comercial. When we first got here we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary one day and AU Zoo the next. We both agreed that we had a more relaxing time at the Koala sanctuary... not to mention it was quite a bit cheaper.

The beaches are definately worth checking out.

Can you pack my SIL (that's in Edmonton) in your suitcase and bring her along.

Hope you have a great trip and if you feel like catching up with another Canuck I'd be happy to.

Janet

Oh! If you're going to be in Brisbane next Friday we're having a Brisbane get together at Carindale Shopping Center . Think you would probably like some of the shops there.

That's hilarious that you are from Edmonton. Why did you decide to move to Australia? Do you ever miss home? Probably not the weather? I would love to bring your sil but not sure she would survive 18 hours in the cargo hold :p

I unfortuantely won't be in Brisbane next week. We start off with a week in Sydney. My dh has a conference so I will spend the week amusing myself, and then we come up to Brisbane to stay with my mom, who is herself a transplanted Canadian. The suggestions are awesome, particularly the caution about the zoo. Can't wait to get there.

Thanks so much for answering.

I do miss home especially now that we have a baby and none of our family have met her yet. But my parents are coming next month so that's not too bad. I really like it here so I don't get homesick that much. We also spent 4 years in California so we're used to being away. It also helps to keep in touch with things back home... I watch The National online sometimes. Air Farce is also online.

Oh that's cool that your mom is here. What area is she in?

When we were in Sydney we were in the University area (don't remember what it's called) and there were all kinds of interesting shops. The Canadian Consulate has somewhat of a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You have to look out in just the right spot and you can see part of the bridge.

I have no idea what area my mom lives in as she just moved. Before she moved she lived by the University in an apartment. Now she lives in a Condo somewhere.

You must be really excited that your parents are coming, especially with a new baby they've never met. There's a chance that I might not be able to come as I had some bleeding last night with this pregnancy and spent the night at the Royal Alex in emergency. That would really suck as I finally just let myself get excited in the last week about actually getting to go. I haven't seen my mom in 3 years so I hope we can still make it.

Thanks again for all your advice.

Vaughn

Oh no. Hope they were able to find what is going on. Hope you can make it so you can visit your mom.
