I'm pretty sure that you don't *need* to have a period every month to be healthy. There's even a bcp out now called Seasonale that's designed so that you only have a few periods a year. But I'm also pretty sure that going for a long time without a period can increase your risk of problems like endometrial cancer. I don't know how long "a long time" is in this case though. Of course there are both positive and negative effects of the pill. I guess it depends on why you stopped taking the pill and what your cycle is like without it. I just feel better having a period every month because without the pill I only had three a year and that scared me. |
