Unhappy Should I feel embarassed (Fundraising) PLEASE READ. CANCER MENTIONED

A long story short:

My Mom was just diagnosed with stage 4 invasive gastric cancer. She is undergoing 3 rounds of Chemo- then we will be going to Rochester MN. to the Mayo Clinic which is four hours away from home for about 10 days. My Dad is very stressed because money is very tight VERY. And we have to be there for 10 days because they are going to remove her entire stomach. Then when we come home she will have another 3 rounds of chemo. Times are so hard right now. =(... I just want to cry.

I bought some bracelets like the rubber support braclets. I got them customized to say "I support sophia" and it the inside it says "Cancer Survivor" as previous 6 years ago she survived non hodgkins lymphoma cancer of her lymph nodes. She has been through so much and is only 47!

Should I feel embarassed to sell these bracelts to raise money for when we have to go out of town for her surgery?

Does anyone have any other ideas also?

Would anyone be interesed in purchasing any of these braclets?

I am selling them for $3.00 for the uncustomized ones these say (courage, strenght, hope, etc..) and the customized ones that say "I Support Sophia" for $5.00. I hate to sound desperate but we truly need any help we can get right now. Our house payment is 2 months behind and their car is falling behind. I am working as much as I can to help but she is sick and also needs me there with her at times.

Please help.

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your mom and I will pray for your family. I do not think it's a stupid idea at all! That's a great way to start raising money for your family...maybe bring them to your local church, grocery stores, places that people know your family. If she worked then call her place of work and see if they will purchase some and sell them also to people/clients that she may have worked with.
I know this is completely different but my husband and I are trying to raise money for an adoption and what we did was we had a gargae sale. One of my friends actually put it together but she asked for people who wanted to get rid of things to donate to the sale and we had some amazing things! We raised over $1500.00!! So maybe try that especially because spring/summer is here!!
Umm you can also come up with a website (www.webs.com) it's free and put a paypal on there and send it to everyone you know and have them send it to people they know. Aske for donations and explain what's going on. I'm sure people would be willing to donate. Even if you get $1.00 from 100 people that's $100.00 bucks ya know?!?!
I hope everything works out for the best!! Keep your head up!

I don't think it's a dumb idea at all. I live about 45 minutes from Mayo in Rochester, yet when I had surgery last year it was extremely financially difficult for us. We wound up spending about $800 in gas in the week I was admitted. Don't ever feel dumb for doing something to try and help your parents for any reason. You do what you gotta do and ignore what others think. HTH.
