I recently started going to the GYN since my primary had suspected cysts. They found lots of small cysts on both ovaries, a blood filled cyst, and fluid. The GYN said it was all normal and the normal process of ovulation. She placed me on Yaz and sent me away. My primary is still trying to find the cause of my 40 lb weight gain and I haven't been able to lose anything in over a year. I went from being 5'5" and 140 lbs to 190. Obviously, I am unhappy with myself. The GYN told me today that weight gain causes PCOS and not the other way around. She said I don't have PCOS even though everything points that way, even the elevated testosterone. She thinks I have irritable bowel syndrome. Right now, I just feel like giving up and just feel like crap for the next 40-50 years.
I think you need another doctor. Weight gain is NOT the cause of PCOS, otherwise how could you explain all the thin cysters we have right here on these board. Weight gain is a symptom, and too many doctors STILL don't know the difference.
It's obvious they have no idea. Please try and see an endocrinologist who is better qualified to diagnose and treat you for PCOS. No disrespect to other doctors who actually KNOW what this syndrome is!

YES! I agree that you do need to find another dr...I went through the same thing...my gyn put me on yasmin and told me that i needed to lose weight and then there would be no PCOS..and then he would consider let me ttc...I don't understand..i thought that that was my choice...guess not..anyhow, where are you located? I am in n. texas...and I now have a GREAT dr...if you want the info I will pm you...other wise good luck!
I'm in Clearwater, Florida. I am going to start looking around for another GYN and maybe an Endo. My primary is the one who brought up PCOS but wanted a GYN to do further testing. Next time I see him, I will see if he will look at my test results from the GYN and maybe set up a plan.
